Trump's deal with coal miners is not about actual economics and jobs, but about symbolism. Coal miner (like manufacturing) is a nostalgic symbol for a past in which (Caucasian) non-college grad workers had a relatively easy time making a good wage. Trump can't bring those jobs back but he has to show some fake hustle to appease his base. Retail jobs, which are typically lower paying, don't have the same romanticism with Trump's base. For example, think about Al Bundy working at a shoe store.
Those coal jobs that Trump and EPA Pruitt were bragging about creating? Not so fast.. (what, Trump and Pruitt lied?) The new coal jobs the Trump team is touting might not actually exist http://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/15/new-coal-jobs-the-trump-team-is-touting-might-not-actually-exist.html
Gee, it's almost as if bigtexxx got duped by President Trump (even though he supposedly didn't vote for him). Don't worry texxx, you are not alone, millions of Americans got duped by Trump. One day they shall come to that realization.
LOL... Trump is putting our minors back to work... Social media mocks Trump misspelling 'miners' in video http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-brief...-mocks-trump-misspelling-minors-in-iowa-video
You can't blame Trump or any other Republican for taking advantage of these people in communities around coal mines. At some point they have to get hit with the reality over they're heads that coal is dead. Its beyond politics and its inevitable.
The environment and lead paint aren't the same Coal is going away because of economics more than the environment All new fossil fuel power generation is natural gas because of its abundance as well as its cleaner
Hmmm, I've got news for some of you: coal miners and would-be coal miners make up a very, very small portion of those who voted for Trump (< 0.01%).

Yes but for the past 20 or so years they have been politicized (mostly by the Democratic Party before Trump) as the epitome of "blue collar working class". It's a political representation that you are looking out for the working class. There are actually more people that work for Arby's but looking out for Arby's workers doesn't play as well in political ads. Also with Trump he has a facisnation with all things FoxNews, and Fox always has the CEO of Murray Energy (Coal manufacturer) to spread nonsense about Obamas war on coal etc. So no doubt Trump is just using a tried and true propaganda tool already put in motion by his friends at Fox. Also some tech companies have pursued programs to retrain coal miners in coal country in tech jobs but guess who has blocked that from happening... Republicans.
hence why it's a wedge issue that the GOP brings up. All the left wants to do is not subsidize coal as in give it government handouts and let the industry die naturally. It's the GOP here that wants to give handouts to a dying industry. I thought they hated that?
Coal jobs were an issue in one specific area: Appalachia. You'd figure the CF illberals would have picked up on that by now.
Hahaha this line of logic played out perfectly for H in coal country! Everybody agreed with her plan! LMAO you're clueless kid
