The reality is that they really do not need him back. There is an issue with scholarships as well. It really isn't a problem.

and any talented competitive player will tell you riding the bench just isn't what they want to do. no matter how good a team is. they want to be out on the floor in meaningful minutes. he was mr basketball, winning multiple mvp's in district, and a finalist for the top player in houston coming into UH. played big minutes initially, then as UH got more talented, he got weeded out unfortunately. With the talent coming in and guys who sat out last year, he isn't getting better here at this point and made all the sense in the world to transfer for the betterment of his career. guys like bruno are the ones who sit on the bench and don't mind being cheerleaders. That's definitely not Ced

Exactly, and he and Sampson sat down and discussed next season..... he asked Sampson about what his likelihood of getting heavy minutes was and Sampson was honest with him. A lot of coaches would have lied, Sampson didn't. Everyone leaves on good terms.

I could be wrong on this, but I thought UH had one too many players and somebody had to go.
Maybe Ced took one for the team!

If everyone came back we would be 1 over the limit. If Jarreau and Hinton stay in the draft we have 2 to give.

Houston has the requisites to be a 30-win team

Last year’s 23-win squad really could have easily had 26 or 27 victories prior to the American Conference Tournament if its end of game execution was tighter. Houston lost a total of four games in league play by two points or less and simply couldn’t make plays consistently with the game on the line.

With another year of experience and nearly everyone of significance expected back, Kelvin Sampson is going to have a legitimate chance to win 30 games for the second time in three seasons. The Cougars won 33 during the 18-19 season when it lost in the Sweet 16 to Kentucky.

Even though both Nate Hinton and DeJon Jarreau are slated to go through the NBA Draft process, the Cougars still plan on having at least one of those players back to go with a returning nucleus of six other players who averaged double-figure minutes last season.

The key for Sampson is the return of the 6-5 Hinton (10.6 points, 8.7 rebounds), someone the veteran coach called “the best rebounding guard he’s ever coached” after a win at Temple last season. If Hinton’s back for another year to anchor this team’s small ball attack on the glass then this program has more than a legitimate chance of again reaching the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Houston adds two rotational pieces in Idaho transfer Cameron Tyson, who made 106 three-point shots two seasons ago and redshirt freshman J’Wan Roberts. Top-100 freshman Tramon Mark will also contend for major minutes.

Major personnel changes at Cincinnati, Wichita State, and Memphis (Precious Achiuwa) combined with UConn’s departure to the Big East make the Cougars — at least on paper — head on shoulders above everyone else in the American Conference.

Very good get for UTSA. Seems like he could have done better for himself than that. Best of luck to him!

Welp. this team would have been so extremely dangerous with him. Sucks we couldn’t see one last conference/March madness run. Good luck hint. Grimes is going to have to step up big time now

Hinton is 75th on the SI list of prospects. The odds are greater than not that he won't be selected at all.

Doesn't mean he cant get a basketball job someplace else and begin his career. I'm sure the NBA is the dream, but he may feel it is not going to happen, or his path there is thru something other than NCAA. And might as well get paid along the way. Maybe it's just time for his mom to get a house! Hate to see him go, wish him the best.

Walker is another under the radar signing and an example of Sampson just out working other coaches. Walker isn’t a big name yet, but he can play and has a high ceiling and strong work ethic.

Where UH should have an advantage is seeing these local kids early and developing a relationship with them and thats how we can land them over the traditional basketball blue bloods. This is where past coaching staffs here failed and where Sampson has excelled. We know have the last 3 top Houston kids in the fold even though Grimes didn't get here the traditional way.

You are correct or you can try the method below.
When I was younger I thought sending a van full of fans to a players house or giving an Ipad would convince an NBA player to sign here. Boy was I stupid.

That's the top two rebounders from last year's team.
Yet I still expect that to be a strength of next years team.

not sure about that. Next years team is extremely guard heavy. So I'm anticipating a much faster pace team with such deep/interchangeable rotations at those positions. and the coogs are going to lose some size/toughness. A plus is they get a boost in perimeter shooting with the guys that sat out last year
