I'm in no hurry to put Clint "the ghost" capella in he rotation. He needs that 1 good summer league a la DMO and he'll be ready next year. Its fun watching his athletic game and when he gets that jumper going, he'll be the Rocket's future Center.
This has always been my sentiment. Players develop with time against the competition they are supposed to excel against. Capella beating up D-Leaguers proves nothing. As a 1st round pick, he is supposed to beat up those scrubs. What he needs is time on the court against players good enough to make an NBA roster.
He started playing bball at a relatively late age so it's refreshing to see the promising results of the work he has put in. He just needs to keep playing basketball and we can better evaluate him in the Summer League. It does seem like he has better honed his instincts around the basket as inside the paint is one of his strengths. He's a bit better on his overall game and has better court awareness, as you mentioned. He certainly has the ability to make a roster spot next season but I wouldn't be surprised if didn't happen simply because he still has ways to go.
The reason Capela wasn't taken earlier is because of how raw he is. Also, I doubt Capela sees much playing time with the personnel on our frontcourt, pre and post trades. I don't think anyone disagrees that Capela needs significant time against actual NBA players, but he's in a good organization to be developed in the meantime. He's obviously a man among boys at D League level competition but if he's ready for NBA minutes he'll begin to show it at Summer League.
Yeah I'm not ready to just give him a roster spot, agreed he needs to play as much as possible. I'm pretty sure the Rockets were hoping CC would play overseas this year, but this may have accelerated his development. Did this cost the Rockets some cap space? Sure, but it's obvious the organization took full advantage of him being here and I hope he keeps developing at a nice rate. Sky is the limit with this kid.
I just watched the video and I was amazed by how big the opposing center was. Sim Bhullar 7'5" 365lbs. I looked him up and he is an intriguing prospect. If he works on conditioning he could be something. As far as Capella, he will be a defensive force in the near future. He just needs to build his confidence and work with our strength and conditioning coaches. He needs to get stronger in the lower body and his core. He will be just fine.
Bullard could lose 30 lbs., increase his vert, gain stamina AND still would be a lesser player than Capela. Bullard has no clue how to play the game and is as slow mentally as he is physically. Capela was running circles and jumping over and around the guy.
Agree that Capela needs to work on his strength, but he looked pretty dang good in the post defending a guy 7-5 365 lbs. Basketball skills or not, Bhullar is still planet sized.
Have you watched him before or are you just assuming? I honestly had never seen him play before the other day but I watched the last two RGV games against Reno on YouTube and I must say that I was impressed. He has raw talent and size that you just can't teach. With some work he could be a wrecking ball big coming off the bench.
So versatile. Sim Bhullar is so huge it is incredible. Someone needs to get that man on a diet and he could sit on someone's bench for a couple seasons like the old Korean center.
And? He didnt bring up Gobert to say that Clint is better, it was just to show how slow raw big men are to develope.
Disagree. D-League success by no means NBA success but young players need minutes and to work through their development issues on the court. I guarantee you the same things he would be working on in practice in Houston he is in RGV. Going against NBA vets skating through practice ain't gonna be the difference. The Rockets have employed this for a while and the rest of the NBA is following suit by utilizing the D-League more.
This is the most impressive video I've seen of him yet. He's posting up, stealing the ball, blocking shots, dribbling on a fast break, making nice passes, playing solid post defense, making a lightning quick face-up move for a lay-up, etc. Huge difference from the beginning of the season.
