Exactly. It's not like this was a debatable call. The refs missed a made basket. They literally missed the most important part of basketball when it comes to officiating: counting the points that went thru the basket.

Imagine if they didn't count a free throw, then refused to correct their mistake. One point can effect a game... a lot. It's not like games aren't decided by a point, much less two points.

No. I never said it should be voided.
The reason to replay it is in fairness to the Spurs. Who, despite being outscored by 2 in the game, went to OT.
    Hence the replay

I think the situation is unique enough to warrant exceptional treatment, ie the replay. The league has ordered the re-playing of 4 games before - I think this is unique enough to warrant a 5th

    Basketball basics
Ball goes thru the hoop without any other violations
    Points are awarded

Anyone who coaches, plays, follows should protest this

People don't like to have this view because it's 'woke' to think of things the other way.

Can't backfire too much, when that seems to be the regular reaction from the refs in the playoffs anyway.

What a dumb mother****er that ref crew chief is... If D'Antoni is protesting the call that implies he is asking for a review!!! The Rockets are playing basketball not in 2019 but 1969. Hopefully 1970 is just around the corner and things will get better?

As they should. NBA has to answer for such an egregious error by the refs. Someone has to hold them accountable.

I don't like the idea of a made basket not counting in a tie at the end of regulation.

Bruce Bowen was all about ethical, clean play. It's what he would want.

Considering we outplayed them for all but half a quarter, I'd say this is a weak point. SA would've had to play differently in the last 2min, eventually resorting to fouling, which would've also benefitted us offensively, and halted play.

Man listening to bball podcasts from 2 days ago about this incident is very triggering. It was a bad decision on my part.

There is no good solution. Replaying 8 minutes of a fourth quarter in which one team made a dramatic comeback because of a scoring error is also a drastic solution that the NBA would be understandably very hesitant to take. The question has been asked about what should happen if this error occurred in first quarter rather than the fourth. I haven’t seen anyone respond to that.

Every game should be replayed until everyone agrees the referring was 100% perfect.

The problem with this reasoning is that, we don't know if the basket was counted, whether the Spurs would still have the same comeback effort. The butterfly effect is just that. It's unpredictable what something would happen if something, however small, had changed.

Any replay would be unfair in that sense because it would not be the same game. The same game could never be replayed.

Refs will change the score based on an error earlier in the game from time to time. If a made 3 was erroneously scored as a 2 and the refs determine this a few minutes later, they don’t go back and replay the possessions. They just give the team an extra point.

So, yeah, I get the butterfly effect, but one has to consider that against voiding nearly 8 minutes of regulation basketball. It’s not an easy choice.

This goes to right and wrong. The Rockets should have gotten the two points. That likely would have altered the game in their favor and changed the outcome. Regardless of how the Spurs played down the stretch, the Rockets were likely robbed of a win due to a call that should have been corrected later in the game (just like changing a 3 to a 2 is done as another poster pointed out). The refs / league blew this. The Rockets shouldn't be penalized.
