KC won the trade, they are sure Mahomes is their QB of the future so instead of letting Alex Smith go with nothing in return next year, they got a great DB, and a mid round round pick.

I think Cousins is slightly better than Alex Smith, they are very similar, so I dont how they didnt want to give Cousins that long term deal, that Smith got, Redskins have to pick up great players in the draft, because they dont have the weapons Smith had in KC with Hill, Hunt and Kelce.

Sees everything only in relation to how it might affect himself...

The very definition of self-centeredness — it’s all about me — and his core issue. Time to grow up.

They weren't about to franchise Cousins again because it was obvious he really wasn't interested in signing a long term deal with the Redskins. So rather than sink $35M or so on Cousins for one year, they went and replaced him with a very capable QB in Smith who's cap hit was much less. They had to do something because they are in a division where their competition either have good young QBs (Cows, Eagles) or are in a position to draft one (NYG). Getting Smith enables them to remain competitive while buying them time to sort out their QB problem.
