    I’d rather do a 5 year 100 M but front loaded

Turning down 5 for 85 possibly 90, seems kinda ridiculous in the current market. Just because other teams overpaid for some centers shouldnt mean everyone has to. If capela had a 3 point shot, then yeah he would be totally max deal no brainer worthy. But he is limited offensively and this is only his first big contract. He is in prime position to get another one. Sign the papers clint. Get this over with.

New Orleans Pelicans: Projected room: $27 million
Dallas Mavericks: Projected room: $55 million (DeAndre Jordan on 1-year deal; could re-sign him)
Indiana Pacers: Projected room: $56 million (Myles Turner RFA next summer)
Atlanta Hawks: Projected room: $35 million (Have cap space this summer & no offer)
Cleveland Cavaliers: Projected room: $29 million

Hopefully, DPOY is one of those 'goal' incentives!

    https://www.chron.com/sports/rocket...istic-on-re-signing-Clint-Capela-13064695.php

While the Rockets' negotiations with center Clint Capela remain a stalemate, their offer has been much closer to Capela's demands that had been described in recent days.

The Rockets on July 1 offered $85 million over five years, with the contract potentially reaching $90 million with incentives, two individuals with knowledge of the offer said on Tuesday.

That offer would be much larger than deals given other centers this off-season but falls short of the contracts received by Rudy Gobert and Steven Adams in 2016 when the NBA cap spike sent contracts for free agents that summer skyrocketing.

Capela's representatives have sought a deal similar to those contracts, persons with knowledge of the negotiations said.

A restricted free agent, the Rockets would have the right to match any offer sheet Capela signs. The Rockets remain confident that they will sign Capela, a person with knowledge of the team's thinking said.

When asked on NBA-TV if the Rockets would be able to bring back Capela, Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said "Oh yeah, he's a restricted free agent so we have a pretty good chance."

Capela was the runner-up to Victor Oladipo for the NBA Most Improved award. He went from getting 25 double-doubles in his first three seasons to 42 last season.

Capela led the NBA in field goal percentage, was second in blocked shots per game and eighth in rebounding, averaging 13.9 points and 10.8 rebounds. He became the fourth player, along with Wilt Chamberlain, Artis Gilmore and Rudy Gobert to average 13 points while making at least 65 percent of his shots.

$17M per year, I can live with that. Hoping he eventually takes it. It's risky for him to take a qualifying offer knowing damn well he's had injuries in the past.

This seems like it just needs time. I don't see these as low ball offers. The market for centers seems to be low in demand.

I congratulated CP3 to win the most money in 2018 free agency.

And seems like I will also congratulate Capela to win the most money in NBA centers of 2018 offseason.

    Well done Rockets.

17m a year is team friendly....I wonder if that 5th year is team option. Maybe that’s what’s holding it up for Capela.

Maybe, but I doubt it. More likely it's a fully guaranteed salary with no options.

If those numbers are true, then this is actually a fair deal, Capela needs to realize that he isn't all star level player yet, yes he has improved and the dude worked hard to get paid but he isn't an all star player, the contract seems fair imo

The funny thing is there is no one NBA team giving Capela a contract so far.

The superstar in Rockets fans heart feel awkward.

that offer is more than fair for a guy who couldn't get even one team willing to extend an offer sheet. if he still takes the QO then buh-bye
