Capela was 5th in the league in win shares with 10.2. The average salary for the top 10 centers by salary is 25.6 million and median is 25 million. There are a bunch of bad contracts in there. The average salary for the top 30 centers by salary is 17.6 million. The median is 16 million. Here are the top 10 centers in terms of WS last year and their salary. The average if you don't include KAT and CC is 23.8 million. The median is 25 million. Maybe Capela is a a scrub lifted by harden and CP3 and Harden, but the average center is making 16 million. Maybe Capela is an average center, but when he compares himself to others around the league they are making about 25 mil/year.
The majority of those contracts are bad/terrible. The league has been moving away from paying centers like Capela max money and quickly... the game is changing... you cannot afford to pay a center like Capela the max... that money has to be reserved for guards/wings unless the center is a unicorn like Embiid.
I think 4yrs/72-88million is reasonable. Anywhere between 18-22 million a year. If that gets offered and he declines, just give him the QO and hope for the best a year from now.
Centers didn’t even play in the finals. Tell me why we should pay a player $20 mil to sit on the benchin critical minutes during the WCF and Finals?
Look at it this way. If Clint signs a contract paying him 20-25 million per year. Would that make him difficult to trade?
You can offer him the minimum if you think he sucks. However here is the data of what current salaries are. Player comparable to him are making 20-25mil/year.
4/60 is a good starting place. I think he is worth more but not $25 mil a year. He relies on set ups to get his shots. He is still developing and could get a larger payday after year 3 or 4 of his deal.
doesnt mean thats what he should get. the market dictates that. CC isn't benefiting from it. take a look at all the bigs that signed after a year or two ago. nothing even close to 2016 or previously.
Can’t compare salaries with a moving cap. In this cap, he’s not worth 25 million and pretty much all those centers in this cap isn’t worth it.
Yeah, this is precisely why Capela is holding out. I think if we get him for 80 million, it's too low. We certainly have to pony up the money to keep the core together. Yes, his contract would be tradable barring an injury. He's only getting better.
The new max contracts which have gone up in value have reduced the value of non max players. Before a 22 mil centre wasn't making too much less than the max star. Things have changed and values have to adjust. So unless you're Jokic where the team views you as a max guy, you're taking home less because the stars are taking a bigger percentage of the cap. In this market 4years 80 is tremendous for a non star centre.
If those higher paid centers played for the Rockets their stats would sky rocket lol. I understand Capela wants money so he can relax and start getting hurt and stuff.
