This is kind of the flipside of being the "it" city for team relocation. Now, any time an ownership group wants to blackmail a city into a building a new arena, moving to Houston will be the threat. That's not Houston's fault, of course, but it ends up making the city something of a villain in the minds of many.

I didn't read this article, but based on what I've seen said about it on Twitter and elsewhere, it seems like this was simply the ownership group using the media as a vessel to threaten the city. Calgary is certainly going to be in the mix of teams that could potentially be relocated and end up in Houston, but I think this is still in the (mostly) empty threat stage.

As I understand it NHL rules state that new owners buying teams have to wait 7 years to apply for relocation so I doubt Houston gets a hockey team for at least another decade since they already have two new expansion teams.

Unless one of these owners applies for relocation now and than sells the team to Fertita after it gets approved which doesn’t really make much since.

So current ownership moves here and then sells immediately. (No idea if that’s possible, but I know if the league would prefer a team in Houston their rules can be waived)

Seattle will be getting a team soon
yeah I mean I’m sure it could be put to vote on by the owners but I think the rules are really designed specifically to prevent new owners from coming in and just uprooting teams. But if one of these franchises becomes so embarrassing that it’s bad for the league and Houston keeps showing a strong desire for a team I could see it being overturned.

I agree, if there's going to be a NHL team in Houston, they will be called the Aeros.

It’s been a thing in warm weather cities for about a quarter of a century now.

Ya know the farther away we get from those pinstripe jerseys the more I appreciate them... sure they were awful but now they have a sort of retro nostalgia feel. Similar to the old rainbow jerseys the Astros wore.
