So now we'll really see what Cal McNair is made of. He listened to his trusted advisers and pursued who they recommended. It didn't work out, so what Cal does now will tell us whether he's in charge or just a figure head.

So what should he do? Tell ByourownB and Easterlilly to focus on training camp and the season. First, he should decide what is his "Vision for the Texans". He then should hire an independent consultant with GM experience, provide him guidance on what he wants to achieve and use him to help him find our next GM.

Personally, I'm not a big NE fan. They're like the Warriors of the NFL, who I detest.

I want someone smart, someone savvy, someone who knows when to be aggressive and when to just be patient. I also want a proven winner, someone who has been to the big show, took home the trophy and f_____ the prom queen.

Who fits that mold and might be interested in coming to Houston? Here's a good article that looked at a bunch of different candidates http://insidethepylon.com/nfl/front-office/2018/12/10/2019-nfl-general-manager-candidate-study/

I like both of these guys Eliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith

Check out what this article says about Caserio https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/12/28/general-manager-candidates-chris-ballard-colts-model Vikings Asst GM, Colts Asst GM and KC Dir of FB Ops look like folks we should interview.

Finally, a wildcard would be Peyton Manning. Manning will wait for the right opportunity, maybe he's waiting for Elway to give him a job to groom him or maybe he's looking for the best opportunity.

In any case, its time for Cal to take the franchise stick from BOB and bring in someone that will challenge the status quo.

As a fan who do you want to see as our next GM?

Cal should sell the team to someone who wont mismanage it. Then he should take out a full page ad in the Chron begging for fans forgiveness for being an incompitent douche and effectively turning the entire organization over to a coach who hasnt proven anything yet.

I'd love to see him sell the Texans. At no time in franchise history has that family ever shown that they know how to build a SB caliber team.

Of course not silly, but we can...

    - watch games at home or at a bar
    - not buy expensive drinks and food at the game
    - not buy Texans gear
    - call into Sports Radio with our outrage

Sports franchises make tons of cash off those first 3 and we can put a dent in them as a fanbase if we decide we want to.

Lol you’re exactly right. We definitely showed in the mid-90s how we can put a dent in a franchise. I miss the Oilers.

Interesting question: If Bob McNair were still alive, would this GM fiasco still have happened?

The Oilers consistently sold out the Astrodome in the playoff years... until Bud announced the team was going to move (in the midst of a 2-14 season, no less)... no way anybody was going to support that franchise after that.

The Texans will never not sell tickets until they have ridiculously horrible back-to-back years. They've had bad years, they've had average years, and they've had good years... but never horrible back to back ones.

And even then, people underestimate how passionate of a football city this is. There'd be enough interest to support two NFL teams (hell, there already is that with as many Cowboy fans there are here).

We should definitely make Bill Obrien OC, Head coach, scouting department, GM, owner, and president of Texas. He is just that good.

This can go 2 ways a terrible season where we clean house or one of those seasons we are good out of no where

The bottom line is that local leaders would not pony up the funds needed to keep the team here, in no small part because of animosity among much of the city toward the owner (which was not helped by the Buffalo debacle among other collapses). We were fortunate to have another opportunity to bring the NFL back to Houston just a few years after they left town.

If you like mediocrity getting a new team was fortunate.

If you want a winning franchise, not so much

That is one big reason why I wish the Oilers had never left.

    Ding ding ding.

When meh is all that is required to keep your job, why risk it. I can't fathom why anybody would expect something other than meh. We haven't made any improvements, but there's no reason to suddenly think we'll be terrible either. It's mostly the same team with a tougher schedule. This has all the makings of another patented meh season.

And that's how you lose franchises....especially ones that have winning records.
