Bregman needs to have a crazy good statistical game. 3 or 4 home runs in a single game, or 7 rbi's. If that happens it could be real close in the voting.

It would also help if the Redsox had a 3-4 game losing streak.

Martinez OPS isn't so much higher than Bregman or Ramirez that it offsets the fact that he plays no defense at all (or bad defense), and he plays in a hitters park. I don't think people should be slaves to WAR, but in this case I think it does a great job of telling the story. His WAR is 7th, well behind the 4 I mentioned, Lindor and Chapman.

I was being sarcastic. He's a great player, but announcers shouldn't talk like he's one of the frontrunners.

Complete sidebar, but why/how is Kyle Freeland on this list? He's having a good year... but compare him to Gerrit Cole, who's at 4.5 WAR. Cole has a better ERA, FIP, IP, WHIP, and literally 100 more Ks. Cole also has to pitch to a DH. Is this a Coors Field effect?

ESPN uses other metrics for WAR but park factor is a big key component regardless of what site reference is used. i think they count "opponent runs per game against player," which doesn't make sense imo. freeland's at 2.7, cole's at 3.7. that's the biggest discrepancy there.

on fangraphs, cole's WAR is higher than freeland's

It's a travesty that Bagwell was not a 1st ballot HoFer. Dude was an iron-man despite how many times he got plunked on his left hand. Can't believe it took 7 tries for the idiot voters to get it right
