I like it. I was actually a student at UTEP at the time so I was able to see the actual championship trophy. The administration staff was so proud of it lol
. . .and meanwhile. . . folx went apeshit of a 6 movies without a single solitary person of color in it (Lord of the Rings movies) and no one gave it a second thought Rocket River
I have not seen Black Panther, but until this thread I did not think of it as a black movie. I thought of it as another comic book movie. Saw l a interview with the director. He said his goal was to make a really good movie. That people would want to see and talk about. If there is a political message it's not to be ashamed of who you are or your heritage.
To be fair, apparently the issue is no black comic hero movies The real issue is we make a stupid issue of everything Good Lord
It's not made by Tyler Perry, and it has a $100 million+ budget?? "My people" are offended! Black people should be too!
Lol damn I misread it as Glory Road for some reason. Glory was a good movie although there were some historical inaccuracies.
*sigh* 12 years a Slave - Black people did not care for it because Solomon Northup had no agency. everything happened to him. he did very little ..... the under current of the movie was trust white folx ....even when they betray you keep trusting them....eventually one won't betray you and you will get some freedom. At every stage of the movie white men betrayed him. until Brad Pitt. then he got his freedom. he did not fight for his freedom. he did not purchase it. he simply survived long enough to find a "good white guy " to help him get it. Also, he was not overly good to his fellow slaves. he came off as a bit arrogant and thinking he was better than them because he was a 'freeman' He was not then, he was just unfortunate. They. .... more or less in his mind.....we're just there in their proper place it was was horrible movie comrade Rocket River hopefully this will help you in your research into AfAm. you can do a better job trying to imitate us in future posts
folks in this thread might find this review to be interesting http://thefederalist.com/2018/02/19/black-panther-boring-heck-villain-shows/
That's not a terrible review, but it's infusing way too much politics for no good reason. He certainly has a point about the moving seeming poring at points and that there are essentially no stakes for damn near the entire film. Funny enough I was also reminded of the Star Wars prequels at times, but for different reasons, the CG was occasionally really bad and that's inexcusable in 2018 for a film that had this kind of budget. Also, there were times that the movie made me laugh at it when it was trying to be serious. In all though, I wasn't as down on the film as he was, I think it's a solid 7 or so. Marvel essentially doesn't make bad movies, but this movie was nothing special for a Marvel movie.
