He could be more like this guy..."a failed senatorial candidate could be the savior of the party" https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/art/artifact/Sculpture_21_00013.htm
Trump calls O'Rourke 'crazy' for his hand gestures “I’ve never seen so much hand movement,” Trump said to reporters, adding that he’d watched O’Rourke in what he called a news conference earlier that day. “I said: ‘Is he crazy or is that just the way he acts?’” https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/14/trump-beto-orourke-2020-1221503
Beto Biden Harris and Sanders are the front runners. Beto is the best candidate of the four, but anyone of them will make a fine next president.
Your 2 examples are Democrats who ran for office in Democrat strongholds. Again (because this has to apparently keep being explained using small words), Congressman O'Rourke came within 3 points of taking out a republican incumbent in a historically deep red statewide race. Had he finished with a double digit loss, he wouldn't be here. He exceeded expectations by a long shot and made what should've been a big margin for Cruz into something he had to fight tooth and nail for. O'Rourke doesn't likely win Texas, either, but he makes it competitive and forces the GOP nominee to spend resources here.
This guy would be such a failure. He has never done anything in his life except marry into wealth and be born to a political family in the city. Aside from working as a nanny and starting a failed newspaper and then becoming a 'politician' what has this guy done?? Why are people so desperate for something new and inspirational that they believe anything without having the patience to see if they are successful, can do well or have any real way to make things any better. Like Obama, this guy has never tasted big money or power so will just get swallowed up by the system. The state agencies will take over and he will give speeches, photo ops and say some spirited words about liberal topics.
Those two things seem to contradict each other. Just keep voting for trump. Running a Trillion dollar deficit when the economy is doing well just sounds like a bad strategy.
He's been a 'politician' for 12+ years now. So, I'd say its been a while since he's been bumming around. Besides that and the other things you mentioned he also started a small business which appears to still be in operation though I don't know if he's associated anymore.
Beto will be the next president. If he's not, $25 to the tipjar. How many want to take that bet? It's a popularity contest anymore, as proven by Trump. The Dems will want to out someone young and not boring up, and Beto is that guy. He can play the bad boy "not your typical politician" role much better than Trump ever could. I don't even know all of his political values and I'm still willing to wager.
I am in agreement. Give Beto 30 days in Iowa and he will soon be the frontrunner (along with Sanders) in those dang polls.
He's the only Democrat that can go toe to toe with Trump and put him in his place because he's the only one that won't play out like a boring old man and the same old same. And apparently those things matter now. Whether you want to blame it on uneducated baby boomers or millennials, the presidential race has been reduced to something of a class president type deal. It's a popularity contest, and Beto is the only person in the field that has the charisma (and substance) to carry the party. He's the closest thing to Obama that that party is going to get.
Or he will be a very good vp candidate as has been speculated. I think Biden/Beto would be a good ticket.
