So my first anniversary is coming up and I’m looking for some suggestions for a quiet restaurant for my wife and me. Greater Houston area or even short road trip away is fine. Obviously food should be great, and preferably has full bar (wife doesn’t drink wine or beer, but likes cocktails and spirits).

    Thanks in advance.

BCN was probably the most intimate restaurant I've been to.

Request a quiet table at Pappas. They'll set you up. Great food, great service, great cocktails.

This Papas steakhouse. When you make your reservation tell them you are celebrating your anniversary an if they can sit you away from the noise an crowd. You will thanks us later.

I've lived in Austin for nearly 30 years now, so I can't help you find a good spot, but wanted to say congratulations.

    Congratulations!

Rainbow Lodge is a cool place as well. I don't remember if they do cocktails since I usually cheapen out so I can get the more expensive menu items.

I dont think Pappas meets the "great food" requirement. Nothing is more basic than a steakhouse. Its also super pricy for nothing special.

    Congrats nonetheless

She’s a foodie, so pretty much anything that’s good. She appreciates anything with a unique twist. The only thing she doesn’t like are really fatty or gristly cuts of meat.

This may have all changed, but my favorite quiet and/or dark, fancy occasion spots were Mark's (closed, I know, but don't know what is now in that old church), Backstreet Cafe, Brenner's (the original Rainbow Lodge), and if you're on the West Side...Lynn's on Dairy Ashford. There's got to be a great Italian/French/Japanese place, but I just can't think of one off the top of my head.

This. Food and drink are fantastic as well. They specialize in Gin and Tonics which were great.

Spindletop at the Hyatt downtown. Quite and great views. When making a reservation, in the special request section put that you want a table next to the windows. Since it's an anniversary you might even want a room for the night.

    Mark's is now http://www.onefifthhouston.com/
    Rotating restaurants. Currently it's seafood.

OP, my recommendation is French/Italian for romantic dinners. We got plenty of those in Houston.

this is a great recommendation. Intimate, upscale, amazing service, renowned food and an excellent cocktail menu. Do not - DO NOT - take her to a steakhouse for f***s sake.

La Table would be another good spot. Hugos. Of course Da Marcos. MF Sushi.

****, forgot to mention Da Marcos. That's definitely a legit spot to go. I wish I was made of money to go there more than once every few years.

My tastes run to French and Japanese, but it is probably a good idea to think about what she likes and refine a list along those lines :)

For French and Japanese I like Cafe Rabelais and Shun Japanese Kitchen.

Congratulations and wishing you a good celebration. :)

Theodore Rex is a nice, cozy spot.
