Seems like more and more racism is coming out of the woodwork from posters and I'm wondering why it's allowed on this BBS.

Depends on who it is against. Racism against Asians is tolerated.

This BBS has always been pretty laissez-faire with trolls and troublemakers.

There are plenty of good people and good posters here to challenge anyone who gets out of line, in my experience.

There is also a blocking/ignore system.
That's the better alternative than personal feuds escalating into ban requests whenever someone gets their feelings hurt, in my opinion.

And on a side note, while there are legitimately offensive posts here, I have seen some very innocent things turn into a flame war once the "racist" word gets thrown around.

In the end, you can't let someone's words on the internet hurt you, especially with an ignore system at your disposal.

Yea I know it's a quick word to throw out there but I'm talking about the legitimately offensive posts. I'm not talking about ticky tack racism. I'm talking flagrant 2, er mah gawd how are they going to bend his arm back to normal, I'm surprised he hasn't fainted racism.

There is the ignore feature. That's true. But when I see a stickied thread here that talks about being civil, I don't see how blatant racism can coexist. I mean could you? Aside from a poster spamming offensive imagery all over the message board, isn't part of a moderator's position to moderate against offensively worded posts too?

Not particularly. As an example, when I'm able, I play CS:GO and you'd be surprised at the amount of people that just casually say racist stuff on voice chat. They're largely able to get away with it since Valve doesn't care but it does IMO make that part of the gaming community look bad. Doesn't stop me from playing CS though. Compare that with Overwatch where Blizzard is pretty quick to respond to no holds barred hatred and you still get your people that rage but it's generally more toned down and far less frequent. This BBS hasn't reached anywhere near Mein Kempf level but it's not as though there's been less racists coming out of the woodwork either.

Being racist against Asians is a rich and storied Clutchfans tradition. The fact that tinman still gets to post here is a testament to that.

Who gets to decide what is racist or not?

Just use the ignore feature, that's why it's there.

Actually, the best action about offensive posts is not Ignore, but Report.

For one, you don't ignore someone just because of one post. For two, more importantly, ignoring a poster does nothing to that poster. Report, on the other hand, is an action that may result in the perpetrator being punished. Even if the Mods don't do anything because of your complaint, if more people Report the same thing, the Mods will do something.

The probability of something racist reported being taken down is pretty low from my experience, unfortunately.

That's why more people should be reporting. If a post is truly offensive to a lot of people, then maybe the mods will take note.

That's exactly what I do. They never do anything about it thought because tinman is protected for some reason. I imagine he wrote a bunch of garbage in this thread already but I wouldn't know.
