Nope. The prospects are nice but this is a special core we have, we need to go all in every year we think we can win it. Who knows if those guys will turn out to be anything good.

You can't land a guy like Grienke without giving up some talent. Not every trade is a Fields/Yordan scenario. It is just hilarious to me that people can go from "man Tucker hasn't even proved himself yet he can flame out, why is Luhnow so stubborn not to include him in a trade" to "damn we gave up too much" within 10 minutes.

Glad we kept Urquidy, James, Valdez. Still have some cheap, back of the rotation guys for next year.

Did all of it while still keeping Tucker and Whitley. And with convincing the D'Backs to pay 1/3 of Greinke's salary.

It's Luhnow's world; we just live in it.

I don't understand this posts like these. Most owners and GMs have operated by the "strike while the iron is hot" premise for many years, and more often than dug themselves holes. The biggest pieces for 2022 and beyond are still in Astros organization. I like Beer and Rojas, but this trade acquired a great pitcher for now while preserving the Astros ability to keep the window open longer.

    I didn't think I need to specify.

But I was strictly referring to an owner a couple of blocks down the road from MMP in a different sport.

A+. Could not have done better. If we lose now, it's not because we had a talent gap. We have legit lineup, rotation, bench, and bullpen that should be the favorite coming out of the gate.

I wasn’t in love with any of the prospects given up.

Tucker will be up soon as well.

They showed this on the MLB network earlier.

Of the 428 prospects traded at the deadline from 2003 to 2014 just 86 of them had MLB careers. That's 20.1%.

All of this “we kept our 2 prospects” points are valid, but ignores that we also kept the super-prospect who just graduated. We haven’t sacrificed the top end of our future at all with this move.

Sarcasm? The one that basically has put all his resources for the future into the pot on what looks like a losing hand to strike while the iron is hot?

No, the one who forced numerous asset draining moves in order to do nothing more than save money(in future years) on a championship level team.

Even the team this season is being hindered by their moves last season. He actively chose to hamstring his best teams to save money on teams that won't be as good in the future

Unreal that the 'stros pulled this off and kept Whitley and Tucker. Luhnow took some prospects, an injured Martin and JB (offered for Harper (a rental) last year, IIRC), and got a bonafide ace who is here for 3 more years.

    Straight fire!!

    Next year's starting rotation:

    Justin Verlander
    Zack Greinke
    Lance McCullers Jr.
    Aaron Sanchez
