Any of you guys use a 27" 1440 PC monitor?

Ok so here's the deal: I have a relatively old Mac desktop, the kind with the 27" screen, and its resolution is 1440 (twice the vertical resolution of a 720p monitor). I LOVE this for doing photo editing, videos, etc.

It makes using my regular 1080 monitor on my PC almost something to hate.

So I have been looking around at similar monitors for the PC that comes with the Mac. There are a few out there, but the reviews and such make them look really squirrelly. I know I will probably need a DisplayPort cable in order to get that resolution and refresh rate of 60hz, but my PC has an R9 270 and should be able to do it.

Just curious if any of you guys have bit the bullet on a monitor like that. I know a lot of people seem to be rushing into 4k, but I don't seriously think I would care for that, I think the 1440 is where I want to be (unless the 4k can give me the same thing the 1440 would?). Any experience with good brands, brands to avoid, that kind of thing?

    Thanks!

dell ultrasharp premiere color. cheaper than apple and very nice.

    I prefer 2560x1600 though (U3014). Cannot stand 16:9

Dell U2715H... Excellent monitor. You can also get it in 25" if you need more desktop space.

Pixel pitch at 0.216 mm makes it a no go for me. The U3014 is only 3 inches wider than the U2715H, but gives you 1600 height and pixel pitch of 0.252 mm.

The U2715H is the one I went with. It's a great monitor. Minimal bezel, height adjustment, tilt adjustment, rotation, etc.

Isn't a smaller pixel pitch better, as in more pixels because they're closer together?

If you want to be 3 inches from your desktop monitor it might be. For most people the text and toolbars will be tiny.

Switched from a 21.5" 1080p monitor to the already mentioned u2715h and it's great.

My only regret with this monitor was that I didn't get to try out a monitor with a higher refresh rate. If I didn't get mine for a good price due to a cowboom flash sale, I would've been greatly interested in this deal today. Supposedly the red bezel isn't too much of an eyesore.

1440 is amazing in gaming. small details are completely lost at 1080p. I have a 3440x1440 34" ultrawide monitor (same height as 27", just more peripheral vision). Love it love it.

I'm running 1440p and highly recommend it. You should definitely look at the Korean rebrands (samsung/lg). Can get 2-3 monitors for the same price as brand (in some cases). And they use real lg/samsung IPS panels. Some of the brands are Yamakasi/qnix and others I can't recall atm... But you normally can find them for $200-250 and in some cases can even be oc'd on the refresh (I think these days probably not oc, but before could get 120hz refresh on these mons). Just type in Korean monitors on Google and you'll find various hardware sites discussing these (hardforum.com/overclock.net) and unless you're into professional video/photo editing you will not be disappointed. I've had one for 3 years no issues. I was skeptical at first... But after doing the research I found one for $350 (this was 3 years ago... At the time Dell wanted ~$1k for a comparable one), this guy I bought from airshiped it and I got it in 2-3 days from South Korea. Pretty insane at the time.

    Anyway... Highly recommend 1440p

I agree with you, I like 16:10 for document work... But gaming probably 16:9 since some of these devs sometimes get lazy (not always... But sometimes thanks to console). And def agree Dell monitor over Apple. haha, most Apple users are actually buying Dells for their 4k (and even 5k) models (if using for video editing etc).

    ^ and yes, I know 1440p is not 16:10 (it's 16:9), lol I was talking about 2560x1600 or even couple years ago 1920x1200... :)

    Just in case...
