Thanks, turtle, for that new civics lesson: a co-equal branch of government daring to do anything that would not garner full POTUS approval is just "theatrics." Well, I'll be.

That's not how I was taught the legislative branch works, dumbass. Good bills in functional chambers with honest leaders can obtain veto-proof majorities. Or did you dissolve that possibility too?

That sounds like work. Much easier to do nothing and blame the other.

"Voluntary" private sale background checks. btw: Straw purchasing—in which a purchaser is actually buying a gun on behalf of a prohibited purchaser—is the most common channel identified in trafficking investigations.

Lol lets just disband the military. Think of the money we could save by privatizing our national defense to all those red blooded patriotic well regulated militias out there.

5 million? So the odds of one being used for a shooting is extremely low... actually pretty good considering.

There are only 100 million males 18 or older, this means there are enough AR-15's for 1 out of every 20 adult males in the US. Not actually good nor pretty considering 1 person can take out 20 in the blink of a ****ing eye with those things.

EDIT - 100 mill figure is for year 2000, it's probably around 120-125 million adult males by now, so 1 AR-15 out of every 25 adult males is probably closer to the correct ratio for 2020. Still, the point remains the same.

Didnt see debate but saw an analysis that talked about some candidates talking overall gun violence. Democrats who want to do something about guns would do better making this shift

The mass shootings galvanize a wider set of the electorate, and I think there's some assumption that gun control that's spearheaded on the mass shooting problem will also help with other kinds of shootings too. But, I agree the discussion should be wider. Assault weapon bans and red-flag laws aren't going to do anything to help the common handgun murder or unsecured firearm accident. If we don't talk holistically, we're going to rhetorically run down a policy path that will expend a lot of political capital without getting the best outcomes.

Hopefully. I know some folks get a rah-rah feeling when they see a story about a man who can protect himself and his family from the bad guys, but it just makes me sad. Maybe he'd have lost possessions had he done nothing, maybe he would have been killed, but now he has to live with the deaths of 3 children on his conscience. I guess some people are comfortable with that, but I couldn't live with it.

As much as trump's unwillingness to take a position and stay with it... the senate republicans cowardice on this is damning...
