this fuking POS. let's take the non-call on the goaltending of gordon's shot late in the game last night. the call was so fuking obvious a 5yr old kid in the nosebleeds would have caught it. night after night, the only conclusion one can draw from watching nba officiating is that these ***-ups are not genuine mistakes on the refs' part.
ive significantly lost interest in the nba the last few years. if not for the rockets, i would probably quit. but the rockets are still in houston. not being emotionally invested to the game makes stupid things like this easier to go thru.
The problem is that the NBA is drawing MORE viewers nowadays. So until the viewers vote with their remotes, there's really no incentive for the league to do anything about the refs.
like it or not, these refs are the best in the world... players can voice their frustrations but then have to let it go...
I've been thinking --- they like to fine players so much. Why don't they fine refs for egregious calls and non-calls? The refs will take notice of that really fast. And it will offset the gambling money they get on the side.
Im not a conspiracy theorist but the officiating this season is the worst Ive ever seen. There have been so many missed and bs calls, one cant help but be ‘done’ with refs as Melo put it...
If they miss a call.... how would fining them help? I don't think you want to have officials starting to make calls they think they saw...or calls they are pretty sure happened...
No, they aren’t, but you have to have a basic working knowledge of basketball outside of the NBA to understand that. Naive fans are the reason the NBA can get away with putting out an absolute **** product on par with the WWE. Players are increasingly voicing their frustrations because the NBA is objectively creating a worse product. Maybe you can learn to let go of your pre-existing notions regarding nba ref integrity, and wake up before the league is completely embarrassing.
Calls they think happened that shouldn't have been called would count as egregious calls. I just think refs should be held to more strict performance reviews.
What bothers me most is refs making unimportant call that interrupt the flow of the game but ignore the blatant ones. Its just embarrassing how many times in a game players end up flopping to the ground. Like it or not, the players are just as complicit with their theatrics instead of actually playing with heart. Try playing a little D instead of trying to sell the foul.
I'm a high school basketball referee so I know how hard it is to officiate. Until you get on a court and have to make split second decisions it's easy to have your view. Throw in the fact that players are trying to trick you continuously it's a little more difficult than you think. I've had the same coach tell me i was the best and then worst officials he's seen.... it's part of the job to get criticized and yelled at by everyone every time you step on a court. Until players make every shot they take, they need to live with mistakes...
