So Trump has tapped Matthew Whitaker, Jeff Session's Chief of Staff, to be the acting Attorney General until a permanent replacement can be appointed.

It appears that Whitaker will immediately become Robert Mueller's new boss, and has already expressed concern about Mueller coming close to exceeding his mandate.

So the problem here is apparently not the investigation into Russia, but just keeping Mueller from forgetting his limits and keeping him focused on completing that particular task. Hopefully that is agreeable with everyone, but if not, too bad.

In August 2017, Whitaker wrote an article for CNN criticizing Mueller's investigation for exceeding its original mandate. As the Acting Attorney General, Whitaker will presumably take whatever steps are required to correct any overreach that may be ongoing.

CNN has updated and republished this article as of today. Here are a few lines:

Supposedly Mueller is nearing the end of his investigation anyway. This will encourage him to not lengthen it inappropriately or improperly. But as long as Mueller stays within his Russian mandate, everyone appears to be fine with that.

The Dems are apparently becoming hysterical after Session's resignation. They are demanding Whitaker recuse himself, which is of course not going to happen. What this means is that any hope of the Mueller investigation turning into a full-on no-limits witch hunt is over as of today. This will make many on the left very sad, but it is of course the right thing to do.

Wouldn’t it be funny if both Hillary and trump were both involved with Russia and they both went to jail.

We have documented reason to believe that Hillary was involved with Russia through the funding of the "dossier".

no need for the man to recuse himself but he certainly needs to read or reread the mueller mandate. i've posted it so you (@MojoMan) can read it... or reread it.

perhaps you can enlighten us as to where mueller has overstepped/overreached/overextended his authority?

Great question. Thank you for asking it.

I do not think that Mueller has overstepped his mandate. Nor does it appear to me that Acting AG Matthew Whitaker clearly does either. However, Mueller has taken his investigation right to the edge of the line with the following subpoenas related to people affiliated with Trump records from Deutsche Bank:

Again, this is OK, and apparently President Trump agrees. But that is as far as it goes. This Special Counsel mandate is not a blank check to shake down Trump until they find a crime, any crime. That is just not how these matters work, or how they should work.

At this point, the objection is not to what Mueller has investigated, it is to what was left out of the mandate of the investigation. The investigation should be looking into Russian involvement with ALL presidential candidates in 2016, including Hillary Clinton with regards to the "Dossier". But for some odd reason, it isn't.

How exactly is investigating financial records exceeding his mandate?

Don Fat Trump knew Sessions wouldn't protect him so he put in a new stooge. This is clearly a panic move and a signal that Mueller does have something. Charmin Soft Trump is getting nervous.

Why would trumps finances be out of the scope of the investigation?

For that matter , why would his family's finances not be considered fair game .

It would seem that both sides could have something to gain and incentives are clear .

From that point on , you have the fact that Russia DID at least play a role in disseminating information to our citizens .
