270 To Win still has us penciled in with a likely Republican Senate -- 50 to 46 with 4 too close to call (CO, AZ, ME, and AL). https://www.270towin.com/2020-senate-election/
Realistically, unless something crazy happens, Dems probably lose Alabama (even against Roy Moore because you'll have Trump turnout) and probably win Colorado. That still leaves them 3 seats to make up if a Dem wins the Presidency. AZ is winnable with a moderate Dem at the top of the ticket, I think - or maybe even without. Maine is possible, though it's going to be an uphill fight. Beyond that, I'm not sure where they get a 3rd seat. If they have some good candidates, maybe they can steal one of Georgia's two elections? Or with Biden at the top of the ticket, maybe North Carolina could be an outside possibility (no idea if there are any good Dem candidates there). It would help if some of the people declining to run - Beto, Bullock, Abrams - would change their minds. Those could all be winnable races in the right circumstances.
Nothing should be taken for granted but I feel confident the Dems will keep the house and possible expand. The Senate is going to be real close. I agree with those who think it is a mistake for so many Dems to be running for President while ignoring the Senate. If one thing that Mitch McConnel has taught us is that control of the Senate is as important as the Presidency.
The Senate controls everything, even if Democrats lose the House and presidency the Senate is the key to stop the bleeding.
WTF is with Turtle's hand? Has a history of "slipping and falling"... www.cnn.com /2020/10/22/politics/mitch-mcconnell-bruised-hands/index.html McConnell says 'no concerns' despite visible bandages and bruises Ted Barrett and Clare Foran, CNN 2-2 minutes (CNN)Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not answer questions about his health Thursday, only saying there were "no concerns" after reporters asked him about what appeared to be bruises and bandages on his hands in recent days. "Of course not," McConnell told reporters in the Capitol when asked if he had any health issues people should know about. McConnell, who is up for reelection, later said there were "no concerns" when asked directly by CNN about the apparent bruises or if he had any other problems. The 78-year-old did not respond when asked if he was being treated by a doctor. An aide to McConnell also declined to provide any additional details when asked multiple times about the majority leader's health. McConnell has been conducting his regular business in the Senate this week, including delivering speeches on the Senate floor as he usually does when the chamber is in session. On Thursday, McConnell spoke in favor of Judge Amy Coney Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court in his remarks on the floor. In 2019, McConnell fractured his shoulder after he tripped and fell at his Kentucky home. He also underwent triple heart bypass surgery in 2003. A statement released by his office at the time described the operation as a success. McConnell, who survived polio as a child, has been a proponent of mask-wearing and public safety precautions such as social distancing during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
