If he looks more trim, he must have been really fat. He likes like Tyler White in that video. What is up with baseball players getting fat. Don't they have a training and diet program for these guys?

I think most minor league baseball players are on their own when it comes to feeding themselves.

Evan Gattis seems like a decent comp for Adams... Big power, bad OBP and sucks on D

Cristian Javier has allowed 44 hits in 98 innings this season. I feel like he should be talked about more.

He is a very interesting prospect. He has had a very successful minor league career and has had a dominant season. He will open in AA next year most likely and will be in AAA rather quickly if he has a good start.

He has not been rapidly moved up because he walks too much and there has been concern his command will cost him as he moved up the system.

Nate Perry just hit his ninth homer of the year for Tri-City.

Rodriguez has had a great season. Catching depth has gotten upgraded in a major way, between signing Lee, Stubbs, and Santander, big offensive seasons from Perry, Paulino, Rodriguez, and Palma, and solid years from Papierski and Salazar (not to mention Shaver’s breakout and move to catcher).

Sierra would be such a stud if he could just cut his k rate in half; plus defense, really nice power for SS. Unfortunately that’s a skill that rarely improves dramatically.

Nate Perry is a really interesting prospect.

He has a really good arm behind the plate.

Roster resource prospect ranking thru 8/2:

    11. Kyle Tucker
    20. Abraham Toro
    26. Cristian Javier
    27. Yordan Alvarez
    66. Brett Conine
    98. Taylor Jones
    131. Chas McCormick
    136. Enoli Paredes
    162. Yohan Ramirez
    170. Jeremy Pena
    179. Jack Mayfield
    183. Cal Stevenson
    197. Austin Hansen

Josh Rojas was #3 and Seth Beer #35.

13 of the top 200, not bad for a declining system that traded away 4 of their best prospects. I don’t think short season players are counted, otherwise I would expect Nathan Perry to rank highly.

Those ranking seem dubious at best, unless they're just talking about the last couple of weeks or something.

They are not your normal rankings, that’s for sure. Pretty sure they are based solely on statistical performance, age relative to league, and proximity to majors. But you can go back and look at previous seasons and see they they were able to identify some prospects that the traditional lists underrated.

Any list that has Josh Rojas over Yordan Alvarez is a joke IMO

There is probably a defensive component in there.

Those rankings have value, you just have to put them in context. They do not really show what anyone thinks is the relative value or expected outcome, they just show what their formulas spit out. For example, Whitley is obviously one of the Top 200 prospects in the league, and he isn’t anywhere on the list. That doesn’t mean anyone actually believes he doesn’t belong on any top prospects list, it just means he didn’t qualify using the formulas that site put together. Conversely, nobody probably thinks Toro is an MLB Top 20 prospect, but he scored really well in their formula. Certainly/Obviously this list should not be viewed as a complete or accurate ranking of all prospects. Does that mean it’s worthless? No. For example, that guys like Toro, Rojas, and Javier scores so well can serve as evidence that those guys might be underrated by the more traditional rankings. Again, you can go back and look at previous years and see that the list was able to identify some guys the other rankings missed.

The other aspect is that Alvarez dropped 17 spots since July. More than likely the fact that Yordan has had no minor league stats since June caused that to happen more so than anything else.

I'm fine with the idea of a formula approach and being non conventional and don't doubt there are some solid insights in their rankings but IMO they should do a better job scrubbing the list (i.e. move players up and down in extreme cases like Yordan). It just makes it hard to put any faith in the formula/rankings when you look and see a guy who has been one of the most valuable players in the MLB since he arrived below anyone (tbh he should just be removed completely).

    Whitley lit up again.

At some point the Astros need to tell him to stop screwing with his mechanics.... it is getting really old with pitchers in the organization just doing what they want mechanically.

We went through this with Appel and Martes and now Whitley.

Whitley can gush all he wants about how wonderful his new release point and arm action is but he isn’t fooling anyone and at some point he should maybe listen to the coaches... he and Martes can go in the parking lot in AA and bash their heads into one another.

Honestly, Whitley hasn’t pitched well enough to start the season at AA next year.

Did you hit a homer off Whitley tonight? Because I am pretty sure I got credit for a double down the line while taking a dump and browsing pornhub.
