RHP Brock Dykxhoorn was promoted to AAA and will start for them tonight. That leaves Corpus short 2 players. BC is up 2 pitchers so I suspect Abdiel Saldana and another pitcher are on their way to AA (or they could just be waiting for Whitley to come back). Of the 13 players still in the system from the 2014 draft, 7 are in AAA. 2 (Fisher and Davis) are on the big league roster. 1 (Deetz) is suspended and will head to AAA when he returns. 2 (Ritchie and Justin Ferrell) are in AA, and 1 (C Ruben Castro) is in A ball.
Nice article about him: The diagnosis: Matijevic was facing more advanced pitching than he'd even seen on the Cape or in the NCAA -- pitching that was showing better stuff and working outside the zone to get him out. Initially, he found it difficult to cope. "As soon as I got into pro ball, I noticed it," Matijevic said. "Adding in all the Latino pitchers, it's like you're facing a Friday guy every day of the week. It was really eye-opening. But I got used to it, and I tried to get better. Luckily, I'm in the best organization in baseball with some of the best coaches in baseball, and they've helped me grow." .... "That was the first time I'd ever been hurt playing baseball before," Matijevic said. "But I was telling coaches the other day, that might have been the best thing to happen to me in this game. I didn't know how to handle being away like that, and that forced me to figure it out -- get into a routine, get in all my stretches." https://www.milb.com/milb/news/tool...rospect-jj-matijevic-blasting-off/c-278165408
Jonathan Arauz has snapped out of a 2-27 slump with a five-game hitting streak; he went 3-4 with a triple and scored twice in Quad Cities' 3-2 win over Peoria last night. The slump dropped his slash line to .252/.362/.435 on the year, but the hitting streak has gotten it back to .287/.388/.485. Arauz has 9 doubles, 6 triples, 4 home runs, and 24 RBI on the season. He's also hitting the ball in the air more often (0.65 groundball/flyball ratio)... looks like he is starting to get stronger and he's begun to hit the ball with authority. I'd really like to see him get pushed soon.
Big step forward this season. Could help the Astros later this year if needed, or be a good trade chip.
Should be on some mid season Top 100 lists. I’d actually not mind if he was left in QC to get some sustained success and be able to focus on his newfound power rather than just trying to survive.
Cy Sneed went 8 shutout innings for Fresno last night. Taking out his disastrous 10 run appearance on May 1st, he’s had 7 starts, allowing only 7 ER in 42 IP. The k/bb numbers aren’t great, but still nice to see him having some success.
So, everyone's most likely watching the Rockets (I'm listening), but Quad Cities washed Peoria 12-0 in the first game of their doubleheader. Everyone in the lineup scored a run. Jonathan Arauz: 3-4, RBI single Miguelangel Sierra: 3-4, 2-R HR (2), 4 RBI, 3 R
Myles Straw is currently 4-4 with a stolen base (31) for Corpus. Randy César is 3-3 with an RBI; he's now on a 19-game hitting streak.
Straw is now 5-5 with a couple of doubles and three runs scored The two doubles were opposite-field line drives. He just knows how to do the things he's good at.
Cristian Javier in game two of a doubleheader vs. Peoria: 6 IP, H, 9 K The one hit was a double and he also hit a batter, but Javier faced one batter over the minimum. He now has 65 strikeouts in 39 innings this season.
That is extremely weird to add such a high profile prospect to such an aggressive level like that. I’m not taking that as a good sign.
I'm sure it's just temporary, may have been logistically easier to get him from Florida to Corpus than someone from anywhere else. I dunno.
