2017 Astros Minor League Thread

He's good. Backend rotation ceiling, will need to continue to hold the strong BB/K ratio as he moves up as his stuff isn't overpowering by any means.

 

I am bit surprised that Matijevic did not start in Quad Cities. He should get there soon enough.

 

Now that the GCL roster is up, here is the list of players in the system that are not on any roster and do not show as released:

Position players: Norberto Castellanos, Brooks Marlow, Eduardo Guzman, Darlin Figueroa, Angel De Leon, Nicolas Miranda, Alvaro Alvarez

Pitchers: Scott Weathersby, Jose Orta, Junior Garcia, Harlen Florencio, Yonatin Quentin

Also, here are the draftees who should have signed by now that are not on any roster:

Position players: Nathan Perry, Jonathan LaCroix, Jacob Meyers, Josh Rojas

Pitchers: Tyler Ivey, Peter Solomon, Brandon Bielak, Cole Watts, Matt Rupenthal, Matthew Merrill

Finally, OF Pat Porter was released. He was with BC and 15th round pick in 2015. There are now 17 players still in Houstons system from that draft (assuming Marlow and Weathersby haven't been released).

 

GCL beat the Cardinals 10-4 in their opening day game.

 

Said previously that I'm not high on Daz Cameron but looking at the numbers and he has had a good June (.870 OPS). Hoping he has adjusted to the level and will continue to improve offensively (he is still only 20).

 

AJ Reed and Derek Fisher both spent ~40 games in TC before moving up, I'd expect Matijevic to follow the same path. His bat isn't as polished as guys like Bregman, Fontana, and Moran were coming out.

 

Have a feeling Matijevic is going to make quick work of TC. The kid rakes.
