Given the interest and popularity of the MLB version of this fantasy format, I thought it would be interesting to do try for the NBA. This would be year 1 for the 3-NBA-Teams-Per-Owner League!

Here's how it works... Basically, the league has 10 fantasy teams, and instead of drafting players, each owner drafts 3 NBA teams. 30 NBA teams / 10 owners = 3 teams per owner.

You get all the players on the 3 teams you end up drafting and use those players to make up your lineup. There is no trading of players. You can add/drop free agents, but you can ONLY pick up players who are on one of the 3 teams you drafted. I will need to policy this manually.

Given that I will policing this manually, there will be NO trading of teams right now.

So, say you end up drafting the Warriors, Bucks, & Magic... then your roster will be comprised of players from ONLY these teams for the whole year. The challenge comes with picking 3 NBA teams that fit well together.

It will be a three round draft. The first two rounds will be regular serpentine style, but the third round will be randomized.

The scoring system is fantasy points head-to-head, similar to fantasy football scoring. Starting lineups and other details are listed below. Since there is no trading and because lineups are set weekly (not daily), this will be a relatively low-maintenance league.

If you are interested, post a message here. We'll do the draft here on the BBS, and we'll get it going ASAP once the league is filled up.

I'll set up the league if there is enough interest. It will be set up as a Head-to Head, Point's based system as I feel that is easier for most people to understand, and won't put owners with some of the worse NBA teams at a disadvantage.

If you responded, I sent an invite to via the Clutchfans e-mail messenger.

We still have 3 open teams.

Season starts Oct 27, so time is getting tight. I think the best way to do this would be to set a time to get onto clutchfans to pick our teams instead of doing a long draft with limits of 4 to 8 hours.

Sorry. I made some calculations post-call which was prone to lead to calculation errors. Corrected scoring is as below:

    Players Stat Category Value
    Field Goals Attempted (FGA) -0.275
    Field Goals Made (FGM) 1.0
    Free Throws Attempted (FTA) -0.25
    Free Throws Made (FTM) 0.6
    3-point Shots Attempted (3PTA) -0.05
    3-point Shots Made (3PTM) 0.6
    Total Rebounds (REB) 0.75
    Assists (AST) 1.125
    Steals (ST) 1.5
    Blocked Shots (BLK) 1.5
    Turnovers (TO) -0.25
    Personal Fouls (PF) -0.2
    Technical Fouls (TECH) -0.6
    Flagrant Fouls (FF) -0.6

    Rationale:
The points for FG's allows for players to have minimal difference in total fantasy points no matter how they get score (2 pointers, FT, or 3-pointers). There is a tiny bonus for 3 pt's and 2 pt's how the points are acquired, but it is in the hundredths of percent. However, awarding system for points should penalize players with poor efficiency but high volume.

The other stats are weighted so that other players, who do not only score can contribute at a good level. As there are no bonuses for double-doubles or triple-doubles, this made the most sense. Also, given you are limited to 3 teams, this seems the best way to garner some level of parity.

Rebounds and Assists are designed to weighted as equal importance with respect to scarcity for assists, while steals and blocks are weighted as such as well.

Penalties for TO and fouls are weighted to have some minor effects, but not dominate scoring, just as interceptions/fumbles in fantasy football.

I'm totally open to suggestions to make it better.

We also still need 4 teams, so pipe up if your interested. We need interest soon as well so we can start drafting teams.
