1995 Drexler Trade Post Mortem: Rockets Lose Big!!

    1995 DREXLER TRADE POST MORTEM: ROCKETS LOSE BIG!!!

    Hello everyone. I have performed some detailed statistical analysis to determine who the winners and losers are from the blockbuster 1995 Clyde Drexler trade. The media consensus was that this was a trade where the both teams won. However, my analysis renders that claim dubious. Please review the data I have compiled on both team's pre-trade and post-trade winning percentages. For your convenience, I have also taken the trouble of calculating the differences.


    Pre-Trade Post-Trade Difference

    Rockets 63% 50% -13%
    Blazers 55% 51% -4%


    As you can see, both teams declined somewhat. However, while the Blazers remained within the statistical margin of error, meaning their performance did not measurably change, the Rockets' decline was well outside the margin of error. In fact, they became a worse team in a statistically provable way. Before, they were more likely than not to win a game. After the trade, they were just as likely to lose as win. This is very troubling, especially considering that we traded a solid power forward for an injury-prone player who had already peaked and was in decline.

    Now we're totally effed: we went 47-35 with Drexler on board, but we won 58 games last year. Why would you break up a team that won 58 games? We're going to be a #6 seed playing in the first round against a Utah squad that won 60 games.

    There is no way we're beating Utah or going anywhere this postseason. Our goose is cooked. Let's deal Drexler and Olajuwon and sign Barkley and Pippen. Then you'll see how awesome we can be!
