I never thought I'd see a time in history where one party controls all 3 branches of the government, yet they are basically a small gust of wind away from being thrown into chaos.

this attitude is why we are where we are now. sad.

people who treat politics like a team sport are the problem. its how we ended up having to choose b/t the two most unliked presidential candidates in modern history, if not ever.

trumps only ideology is to himself...and his supporters love it.

    You're missing the point

Democrats need to fona self analysis. It doesn't matter if the Democrats are correct on issues if they can't win elections

Sorry, I may be naive but I'd rather be right on the issues, and work harder on communicating and convincing others on that than being wrong and sacrificing my integrity...

Actually I would agree that communication is a big problem.

The other problem is turning out voters

If voters are not voting or voting against their self interest, more power to them. Like I always say, we deserve whom ever we elect.

Communication? I thought liberals had the media in their back pocket? I think the GOP are better bull shitters and better at creating fear, don't you agree?

Fear is used by both parties.

One peddles fear for when the institution fails, and the other with fear against the institution.

Both can be completely right and wrong. Neither accepts nuance to realize the institution is as dynamic as the priorities of the people it should serve.

Healthcare is forcing Republicans to take governing seriously because a lot of their constituents are older

I heard a BBC analyst say this particularly about the Republican Senator holdouts on the Senate bill

This is honestly such an ignorant post. I don't think you know what populism is frankly. You probably don't know what socialism is either. The Republican Party is nothing like the party of 1992 because they hated Russians and supported NATO and floated the concept behind Obamacare that you Republicans despise so much.

The country isn't center right because you got the most votes in two out of the last seven Presidential elections. That's not how that works. It's center right only in your talk radio imagination.

You are naive. Short term winning and winning now is all that matters. Integrity? Honesty? Being ethical? Having morals? Being honorable? My kids and my teams don't need any of that.

your point seemed to be that democrats should worry about themselves and that they are not allowed to discuss the article, which is from a republican who is worried about his party.

are non-republicans not allowed to discuss issues regarding republicans? you said they should "worry about their team". well, this thread is about an article written by a republican who is worried about his "team". are we not allowed to discuss that? are only republicans allowed to discuss it?

i do agree that democrats need to do some soul searching/house cleaning. in an election that if anything, was about being anti-status quo, they picked the most establishment, status quo candidate they possibly could have. they still do not seem to grasp just why they lost and continue to lose and until they do so, nothing will change. bernie sanders got it...the establishment democrats do not.

but this thread is about trump and the republicans.

also, werent you a huuuuge obama supporter? what happened to you?

Compare to this administration, Podesta is squeaky clean.

And, other than trying to deflect the discussion off-topic, and pointing at the Clinton campaign (and illegal hacking performed by Russia to the benefit of Trump), how does this defend Trump and the article? Or the specific discussion as to whether its more important to be ethical and honest than it is to 'win"? Since Clinton and her campaign didn't?

i saw an interesting tweet that said Trump and his supporters have been reduced to "whatabouts"...

We will just have to see in 2018 and 2020, if GOP can keep the congress and white house, it just shows we are wrong and Trump and GOP really represent this country at this time period.

Agree with this article. "Conservative intellectualism" seems like such an oxymoron these days that it's hard to believe it ever existed in the first place. But it did once.

I think the beginning of the end started in the mid-90's with the advent of.....you guessed it.......talk radio. And I knew for sure that it was dead and buried when Trump started winning primaries and ultimately the nomination.

Maybe one day it will come back? But certainly not while Trump is in office. LOL...

Ahh the double irony. You speak about deflection, just as you automatically deflect from the Podesta emails and jump straight to 'but Russia Russia Russia'. No integrity and no accountability when you blame someone else for exposing your dirt. The bigger joke? You think its ok to be unethical as long as you dont win ... even if you supported the candidate!! Pathetic.

And once again, when have I defended Trump? Me pointing out hypocrisy does not make me a Trump supporter.

And FYI, most post was in response to a poster on his high horse criticizing another for their lack of ethics. Again, just because one does not win does not automatically absolve them of their dirt.

And if Clinton did win, you certainly wouldn't be criticizing her and her campaign. That, my friend, is the clearest form of hypocrisy.
