I don't know the thread, but I was looking it up myself yesterday. Yes, the Rockets own the tiebreaker against Denver (head-to-head) and they have the tiebreaker over the Spurs because of winning percentage against playoff teams.

If Hornets lose in SA tomorrow, and Utah wins out, doesn't that push Utah to #7? They are 3-0 against the Hornets this year.

maybe certain fans are worried, but the actual Rockets team does not hope to avoid any opponent.

The Rockets are hungry and taste the fear from their potential opponents, Dallas included.

Victory will belong to Houston this Postseason.

I dont think so. We would only be up one game.

If we lose to Mavs and they beat the Hornets then we would be tied again. They would be ahead because of the tie breaker. They would have a better division record.

I second your sentiments, Bobby Womack.

The ROX shall feed on the bowels of the fodder of the Western Conference.

KOBE's shooting hand nailed to the door of the Toyota Center!

(if Ron doesn't hog the ball, or completely ignore Yao in the post, or regularly engage the other team 1-on-5, or doesn't completely go nuts and challenge #24)

Depends what happens in Dallas. If the Rockets beat the Mavs, the Hornets lose at SA, and Utah wins out, then those three teams tie at 49-33. In the event of that three-way tie, Utah would be 6, New Orleans 7, and Dallas 8.

So if that happens .... Rockets and Spurs would have the same record because both would win out.

but are we #2 #3 or #4 ? if Portland beat Denver that nite

What would happen if Rockets/Spurs/Portland/Denver end up with the same record?

If the Rockets and Spurs finish with the same record at 54-28 AND Portland beats Denver to complete a four team tie, the division winners must be determined first. The Rockets would win the SW division b/c of the fifth tie-breaker (winning % vs. playoff teams) and the Blazers would win the Northwest division tiebreaker (iirc).

Rockets would get the second seed over Portland because of better head-to-head.

    It is.
It's also driving me crazy figuring who we might play in the 1st round, in a good way though

Also, in the event of the aforementioned four-way tie, Denver would get the tiebreaker over San Antonio because of head-to-head advantage.

    So, if all that happens...

    1. LA
    2. Houston
    3. Portland
    4. Denver
    5. San Antonio

CORRECTION: Portland can't win the division title because Denver has the tiebreaker. Portland can win home court in the first round, however, which is why that game is huge for them against the Nuggets.

Then they check tie breakers between the divisions. Rockets and Denver both win.

Then check between the two teams. Rockets would win

    So it would be
    Houston
    Denver
    Portland/Spurs
    Spurs/Portland

check out the right hand side of daily dime in espn nba.
basically rockets now have the tie breaker over denver and san antonio. that means if rockets ties either team's record, we places ahead of them.

Know what else? If the following happens:

    Portland beats Denver
    Houston beats Dallas
    San Antonio beats New Orleans

...then we end up in a four-way tie with Denver, Portland, and San Antonio (if we win, SAS wins, and Portland beats Denver).

And if Utah beats LAL, then to top it off, 6-8 would ALSO be tied.

So seeds 2-5 would have the same record, and 6-8 would have the same record.

The Western Conference is REALLY awesome.

OH, AND this would give us the 2 seed, and Utah the 7 seed.
    Guess what that means? :)

I'm with you. I'd love the No. 2 seed, with home-court for two rounds. If Utah is No.7, bring 'em on.
