1993 WCSF Game 7 - Rockets at Supersonics

One of the most painful losses of my life. Makes me think of the Robinson tip in at the end of the season that changed our playoffs that season.

 

Anyone else here watch this game at Griffs? Packed house.

 

This was painful, which made the Game 7 win four years later so sweet.

This game. I actually cried at the end.

 

the rockets were robbed out the # 2 seed on the last game of the year at san antonio when the refs purposely counted a buzzer beater by the spurs to send it overtime. the shot clearly was 2 seconds late and the refs purposely robbed the rockets out of the # 2 seed and cheated them in gm 7 at sea. Hou finished the season from 1/10/93 to 4/25/93 an astounding 41-11 or really 42-10 since the were scammed that last game. The nba wanted their suns vs bulls finals at any cost and wanted the bulls winning it . this 92-93 hou team was one of the best teams in franchise history.

I remember that game - one of the most frustrating Rocket games I had to endure. After that game, I hated the Sonics forever.

 

I remember being on the verge of tears after 2005 game 7. I was 18 and hadn't witnessed a murder before.

At least after that '93 loss, Clutch City was soon to be born.

 

I know it’s not a happy ending but this is like a a top maybe 8 game in my Rockets “remember the game...” history. Tough tough loss but I can remember every nail biting second seemingly - can vividly remember watching it in my house as a teen...

Now my oldest son is almost the age I was when the game happened... so that’s a long time ago...

Of course it’s not As high as all the greats from the next two years (game 7s against suns, Knicks, game 5 against jazz, Hakeem dominating DRob, game 1 against Magic) ... but it’s probably the #1 loss game for me. Some might say the Stockton dagger... but I was in my late teens then so Rockets weren’t as dominating a part of my life... AND I actually didn’t think they’d win that series/year... I just wasn’t sold on that team.

 

It was on a Saturday. I know it. Because I was graduating college and had to attend ceremony, so I had to miss it. It would have been painful.

 

Oh I remember that, he tipped it like 2 seconds after horn.

Yeah, that play was huge. If the refs get the call right, then the Rockets play that game 7 against the Sonics at home. I'd like to think HCA would have been worth 1 point, and avoid the OT. Really was one of the worst regulation losses I can remember. Even worse than last years OKC loss.

 

I’m happy to see some of us remember this

so when people whine now about the rockets being treated unfairly

this was the definition of it. It costs us home court

The value of home court can't be measured any further. Game 7 OT loss. Can't think of too many series where Home Court was more important. I decided to look it up. In 133 game 7's, there were 5 OT. One was 2OT, Celtics v St. Louis in the 50's. I guess that series HCA was history's king, but of the remaining 4 one other team's game OT loss is probably more painful than ours and that is the classic Kings v Lakers in the early 2000's. That was an all-time great series.

 

another interesting tidbit from that 92-93 season was vernon maxwell injured his hand vs the sonics 4/17 when eddie johnson pushed him in midair and did not return till gm 4 of the 1st rd playoffs vs the clippers.

 

Would not have mattered since cassell pushed back court to whole nutha level.
