Rockets content for those who can’t get enough.

Pretty short interview. Thought the most interesting part was towards the end when Lowe asked him about what his initial analytical thoughts on Harden’s stepback 3s.

Also hasn’t heard him mention it before but he said something about that their research shows to go from tank to back to contention was around an 8-10 year average.

Morey really does give the best interviews. If you know how to read in between the lines it’s amazing the info he gives out.

Just my opinion from watching the games. Capela was unplayable vs warriors due to not handling the trap well and losing the ball in traffic very easily. I think mda didn't believe he would improve in those areas enough.

When a player can't play in a series because of a bad matchup - that doesn't mean the coach doesn't like the player. Passing off your poor read on that situation as some sort of insider knowledge(since everyone was asking for your source) is the very definition of an unhelpful post.

I mean....it was still Morey's idea. Mike was just super on board for it.

I like Morey - he is trying to stat the way to a championship - I do wonder what his algorithms say about the human portion of the equation.

    Mental strength etc....

Really though, somewhere along the line Morey really shifted the way he executed things. He constantly reminded everyone that the most important factor in winning basketball is TALENT. Not strategy, not 3s, not offense, not defense - TALENT. He was constantly sacrificing depth, comfort and chemistry to add talent. Guys like Lowry. Later Harden. Even up until CP3.

Now... it's all... 1-dimensional players that are only in the league due to a gimmick.

    What happened?

Keep the current small ball strategy. Change it. Whatever. But you have to have the actual talent to win. And we haven't gone after that level of talent in 2 seasons now.

What does he have to say about that? How is relying on Ennis or Jeff Green to produce going to help us win? Lulz.

Coach D’Antoni saying, ‘I trust what you guys are doing, I see what you’re doing, and we’re going to make it work.’ That means so much. That’s what I look for the most, someone who challenges me, works with the whole organization, and can execute.

As a GM, you’re making what is a pretty big gamble. If you don’t have the coach on board in a way that he understands how to use what we were going to try and do, you can’t make that move. It’s just too risky.

The reality is without Mike D’Antoni, this Clint for Covington trade never happens. I’d be shocked if there’s very many coaches in the league where I could get that trade done.

In 13 games with Houston, Covington is averaging 13.0 points (36.1% on 3-pointers), 7.9 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. The Rockets (39-24) were 7-2 in Covington’s first nine games, including wins over several strong playoff teams such as the Lakers, Jazz, and Celtics (twice).
