In this case Hinch should've brought in Osuna and let Cole finish out the game. Go with your best. I said this at that time.
Cole was the best in the game. Osuna was the closer for a reason. He was their best relief pitcher in pressure situations. Especially when Harris gave up a HR in the previous game and Hinch before game 7 in interviews said Harris was worn out.
wasn't a closing situation. harris had been absolute nails up to that point. cole's situation is clearly explained in the OP
Harris threw a perfect pitch... Kendrick put an amazing swing on it... this has already been discussed.
Harris was the right move at that time. He was absolutely light out up until that point. He pitched a perfect pitch, but they swung a perfect swing. Sometimes, that result is what happens. Good to get some insight as to the Cole situation. Was wondering what was said pregame between Hinch and him.
Honestly, this is still being talked about? Did Kendrick know what pitch was coming? He'd never hit that particular pitch for a HR before in his career, iirc. Carry on.
I disagree you put him out there so many times the players will catch on just like Chad Green the Astros finally got some runs off of him.
With 8 outs left you treat it like a closing situation and then leave closing out the game to your best. (Cole)
Exactly... but apparently people still think a guy who would have been on 2 days rest, never pitched out of the bullpen before, never pitched on short rest before, and had previously been hit hard by the Nationals one week prior... would have been a slam dunk, no-doubt, lights-out, can get you 3 innings of shutout ball easily. That being said, it would have been electrifying had he started the 7th.... but absolutely nobody had any issues with Harris at the time.
I disagreed at the time because Hinch said Harris was worn out and he gave up a HR in the previous game. Along with my philosophy of you lose with your best.
he never said that, especially about by far his best reliever who was lights out in the playoffs to that point
It's easy to say in hindsight. But at that time you put Harris in, especially since he was K'ing everyone at the plate in the postseason. You can't go with "well he's been too good eventually somebody will hit him" mindset. That's literally playing not to lose mindset and it never works. You roll with what you have, with what's hot right then. Now we know why Cole wasn't used as well.
I never wanted Greinke pulled. Harris was so ****ing good that postseason that there’s no reason to second guess that decision. I never thought Cole at that moment. But let’s move on, we didn’t win and that sucks now for multiple reasons. But that’s the best Astros team that’s ever been and they take that series more often than not.
