All the tabloid reading brexit soccer hooligans are in a froth because someone from the royal family married a mixed race divorcee from America.

You'd think that family would be excited about some genetic diversity entering the gene pool.

    Thy hypocrisy knows no bounds.

The Withdrawal Agreement has been signed by both sides and is ready to go into effect next Friday, January 31, 2020, which is the day that the UK formally leaves the EU. It is their independence day.

The Presidents of the EU Council and the European Commission, Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen, signed the agreement today in Brussels.

Brexit: European presidents sign withdrawal agreement

The presidents of the European Council and the European Commission have formally signed the Brexit withdrawal agreement ahead of Britain’s departure from the EU next week.

Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen put their signatures to the document in Brussels after the Queen gave royal assent to the legislation implementing the agreement on Thursday.

The European Parliament is now expected to vote to approve the agreement on Wednesday, paving the way for the UK to leave on Friday next week, January 31st.

The only step left is for the EU Parliament to vote on the agreement next Wednesday. This is expected to be a formality, because the alternative is the UK leaving the EU with no deal (this agreement is the deal), which would arguably be worse for the EU than it would be for the UK.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin expresses confidence that a trade agreement with the UK can be completed this year.

Steven Mnuchin: US ‘focused’ on clinching UK trade deal this year

The United States is "focused" on striking a trade deal with the U.K. by the end of the year, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Saturday. "The U.K. is our most important relationship ... it’s a very strategic relationship," Mnuchin said in an interview at a Chatham House event, where he reiterated that the U.K. remained "top of the list" with President Donald Trump when it comes to a potential trade agreement.

Mnuchin acknowledged the U.K. may have to "resolve some issues" with the European Union first, but said he did not anticipate those to impede talks with Washington. "A lot of issues can be dealt with simultaneously," he said, adding that the goal was to get both trade agreements "done this year."

Asked whether certain foreign policy issues — such as the U.K.'s decision on whether to allow the use of Huawei technology and its position on Iran — could act as "red lines" in discussions, Mnuchin said he was "quite optimistic" talks would go smoothly given the "very good relationship" between Trump and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

They will not be able to block it. However, as the UK leaves the EU, there are questions that still need to be clarified and as that process proceeds, all of this will eventually get worked out, one way or another.

Brexit Secretary Stephen Barklay told the BBC today that the UK will publish their trade objectives for the upcoming negotiations for a trade deal with the EU next month. The EU had previously announced that they would be doing the same, towards the end of February, if I remember correctly.

UK will set out EU trade objectives next month: Brexit secretary

LONDON: Britain will set out more details about its objectives for a free trade deal with the European Union next month after the country leaves the bloc on Jan. 31, Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay said.

"We are going to publish our objectives for the negotiation in due course after the 31st," he told BBC on Sunday. "But the key issue is that we will have control of our rules, we will not be a rule taker, we will not diverge for the sake of diverging, we start from a position of alignment," he said. "But the key opportunity is that we will be able to set our standards, high standards, on worker's rights, on the environment, on state aid as part of that trade policy."

Still unsure what leverage the U.K. thinks it’s has given the difference in economies and who is more dependent on who for trade.

The EU Parliament just passed the Withdrawal Agreement Bill by a vote of 621-49.

This is the last of the bureaucratic hoop jumping. It is finished and there is nothing else that needs to be done before the UK leaves the EU on Friday.

European Parliament ratifies Brexit deal and clears way for Britain to leave EU on Friday

The European Parliament has voted in favour of the Brexit withdrawal agreement, removing the final major obstacle to Britain leaving the EU at 11pm on Friday. MEPs voted 621 in favour, 49 against and with 13 abstentions in the majority vote, the last one to be held on the agreement taking the UK out of the bloc.

After the results of the vote were announced in the plenary chamber in Brussels, pro-EU MEPs stood, held hands and linked arms and sang the traditional farewell song Auld Lang Syne.

Here is Nigel Farage's final speech to the EU Parliament before the UK leaves the EU this Friday. It is about 5 minutes long.

No breaking news, but it was a bit emotional. Also, at the end, the Speaker of Parliament cut Nigel off because he and the UK contingent were waiving these little Union Jack flags. It was rather petty. Then she rebuked him and told him to remove the flags as they were not allowed.

What was she going to do, have them thrown out of Parliament? LOL. They are leaving once and for all by Friday anyway.
