His defense is average, and he isn't just a shooter. He can pass well, run the floor and put the ball on the floor some. He is at worst a 30 minute a night rotation piece and a MASSIVE upgrade over House. Also, the plan adding shooting from Kennard lets them target another wing that cannot defend but not shoot worth a damn. They want to add two players.

Kennard is far better than McLemore and House.

Ehh.... I guess if you cannot find anyone else.

That is a really good question. No one knows for sure who will be available. If it is someone they really like, don't be surprised if they move another #1 pick as well.

Personally I would gladly give up a number one for Kennard but he will cost more than that. His defense is average, but he does a lot of things well and is under contract another year.

House isn't a very good player.

Morey probably sees the writing on the wall after this offseason.

House is on the wrong side of 20 unfortunately. As of now, he is who he is.

Remember when the cheap Rockets traded a first to dump Knight.

    1sts we still have:
    2020
    2021 - least favorable of okc/mia/hou (top 4 protected)
    2022
    2023
    2025 - okc swap (top 10 protected)

    2nds we still have:

2021 - right to swap with phi
    2023
    2024
    2025
    2026

    • We probably have to give the 2021 2nd to offload nene and get under the tax.
    • We should hold onto that 2022 pick since it may be the first year the high school players are allowed back into the draft. could be two draft classes in one. lots of talent. potentially very valuable.
    • 2020 is supposed to be a weak draft so I'd prefer to part with this one.
    • We should use our 2021 first to add cheap young talent on a long term deal. we need more hartys and clemons', less chandlers and shefaloshas.
    • I believe we can't trade 2025 because we don't have 2024 or 2026 (gone in the Westbrook trade).

All this considered I would be comfortable trading 2020 and 2023 (lotto protected).

Unfortunately the only salary we have left to trade (assume we keep harden, Westbrook, capela, gordon) is tucker, house, and mclemore. I don't see us adding chandler or sefalosha into a deal. Morey hasn't treated vets who sign on a 1yr deal like that. can't see us trading harty without getting a C in return. Somehow we have to come away with a better and cheaper player in order to stay under the tax.

Perimeter players on losing teams who may be available for a pick:
    1) Covington - would need Tucker and House to match salaries. Would also cost a FRP
    2) Bogdanovic (Kings)- would need Tucker's salary to match. Would also cost a FRP
    3) Bjelica - would need Tucker's salary to match. Would probably cost a SRP. Not worth it.
    4) Bertans - would need House and 2 min contracts. Can't see us treating Chandler or Sefalosha like that, can't see us trading Harty either. won't work.
    5) Parker - would need House and 2 minimum contracts to match. See above, just won't work cap-wise.
    6) Burks - SRP and McLemore would do the trick
    7) Crowder - would require Tucker's salary to match. Not worth it.
    8) caboclo - SRP and McLemore. not sure Morey wants to revisit here. Not even sure its an upgrade over McLemore's shooting.
    9) Morris (Pistons) - SRP and McLemore. Not sure its an upgrade over McLemore's shooting but he gives us a legit PF in the rotation.

In the end I would go after one of these 2-trade-packages:

    1) Covington for Tucker/House/pick & Burks for McLemore/SRP- yes its a lot to give up tucker but we get the bigger/younger/better version of him in Roco. Burks is solid all around. can score and assist, decent shooter and defender too.

    2) Bogdanovic (Kings) for Tucker/pick & Morris (Pistons) for McLemore/SRP - again, yes its a lot to give up tucker but Bogdanovic would be a steal long term. gives us another playmaker, shooter and solid defender. Morris would be a fill-in at PF. he adds toughness and size, but can still spread the floor.

Interesting about the high school players 2022 draft. Didn’t know about that.

With regards to your trades, Bertans would only require House and Nene to match salary. Crowder’s wouldn’t require Tucker if you added one more contract to House and Nene (would definitely need to involve a third team for roster spot).

Bruno, Harry Giles, Jonah Bolden, Noah Vonleh, etc. would not require anything but Nene and SRP or cash (TPE).

If the Rockets can somehow get Markieff Morris, Luke Kennard and Glenn Robinson, I would be extremely happy with that. Not sure if Glenn Robinson is available. I’ve heard his name mentioned before. Not sure about Kennard either. Maybe offer the Pistons Nene, House, and Sefolosha and a draft pick or something. I think the Rockets could get Robinson for a trade exception.

Caboclo has been benched for over a month now (shooting 16% from three), and just got injured in a G-League game.

He's out for at least a month.

He just doesn't give af about basketball once he gets a contract. MEM is playing their best ball without him.
