The crazy thing is that people have the power to stop this. It isn't surprising that politicians and Trump would try this. They do it because they get away with it. What is surprising is that some Americans still support them after they do it. Their hatred of Democrats is so great that they don't care that the politicians they support are knowingly advocating Russian propaganda and ignoring actual intelligence about the attempt of this foreign adversary to influence our democracy. The politicians wouldn't do it if voters would voice their displeasure. The voters and people have the power to stop it at any point. There is little hope they will actually do it.
This was an inevitable turn. The partnership of the GOP and the Putin controlled oligarchy isn’t even subtle anymore. It’s open support. To our Trump supporting friends ... don’t be useful idiots. Russia is not our friend even though you think they are on your team because of 2016. They are not. The goal is to create chaos in the US and diminish our standing so they can take back control of the Baltic States. Putin succeeds by making our economy worse in the end. You guys need to push back on this sh$t. It’s your party. You own your unabashed love for Trump. It’s your responsibility to push back on this crap.

I think the takeaway here is that the fact is most Republicans are: -Old -White -Men -Watch Fox News -Listen to Rush Limbaugh -Only talk to other Republicans So the dangerous thing here is someone like Sen. Kennedy of all people should know better but just honestly believes the false narrative and is himself a sucker for propaganda. He himself is very much in danger of being radicalized like any other old person watching Fox. People seem to forget that Republican politicians at the highest level watch FoxNews instead of CNN or NBC or whatever. That should startle everyone when someone like Chief Justice Roberts is making life of death legal decisions. If he’s watching FoxNews even he is capable of having basic truths be complicated. Even the folks in the party that aren’t literally bought off by Russian oil money are still culpable to pro Russian propaganda because FoxNews and other media sources are poisoning their minds just like any other old person who watches it and lives in a bubble of their own reality.
Maybe Nancy Pelosi can have a press conference and say "russia, if you are listening, release the tapes!"...
