It is a perfect storm. First the Rockets traded an elite defensive coach for a mediocre one. Second the Rockets decided to switch their defense away from straight switches to a hybrid defense that is more complicated. Third the Rockets replaces an elite defender in Paul for Westbrook. They also brought in several other players all that are more comfortable playing man. Fourth the Rockets didn’t address their lack of length at the 3/4 or 4/5. Fifth with a lot of the personnel changes their starting center doesn’t really fit well at all.
There are many reasons we lost. EGO isn't the only one in a funk. Even he is shooting better from behind the arc than Ball hog Harden. Only House and Tucker are shooting decent from the arc. Westbrook is the only fun player to watch.
Rebound rate was a lot higher for Chandler. I've no idea if their defensive effort correlates though. How did Coach 'Consonants Attack!' get these guys to be at least league-average defensively?

The league isn’t copying rockets basketball. They’re tweaking the idea. No team is having a player dribble around and launching contested shots. You’ll notice when teams are bombing away against us it is very rarely a shot construed the way harden jacks them up.
I really like that Brodie (or is it Brody?) seems to have bought wholeheartedly into Moreyball. Look at his shot selection in the 4th the last game. Layups and 3s. WB isn't the problem here, and that's kinda surprising to write.
I get why I gotta signed EG to the extension because if we didn’t he leaves and we still have no cap space but man I can’t say I didn’t see this coming. I like EG I really do but he’s been very overrated for quite some time. He had some good games last years playoffs. But the only season I thought he really played well was his first year here. Every other year has been up and down and just mediocre imo. Rockets should try something new Let’s go back to the old lineup when we just ran 100mph in MDA first year. I want to see Clint/ryno/tucker/harden/Russ If we’re not gonna defend get more space and shooting in there and Ryno is a decent defensive rebounder. Push house to the bench. He’s been good but with EG struggles our bench is garbage. It’s bad when I have more faith in a rivers 3 point shot and drive to the rim than EG. He needs to get his game going.
Was it really Morey's decision to fire Jeff...or was it Tillman's? im fine with the Westbrook trade btw, he just needs direction defensively.
Man...Clint must have been really really bad jesus. Idk...he's just really good....but to be fair Paul was also here, and our defense was on the upswing even before Jeff got here...and then it got worse...and then it got super good haha. But yea Jeff is great.

Or you have players putting at best 25% as much effort into defense as they are to offense (cough cough Harden) And there you have it straight for his mouth. Defense starts at the rim according to MDA.... lol. Yes, clearly rim protection is uber important. Newsflash coach, the offensive team doesn't start right under their own basket.
Harden can hit those though, he hit it all of last season, worry about the defense. Harden will be alright.
Clint was terrible and has been terrible. MDA knows he isn’t a great fit with Westbrook and has issues defensively too. Gordon is mostly in a shooting slump... defense is something that shouldn’t slump. What I am curious of it at what point does MDA tell Turner to drop the hybrid sets and just switch everything.
