Trump did not write the Constitution, so how can we take it seriously?

Mulvaney making that announcement, and saying with a straight face that the Trump Resort is far and away the best of the options they'd looked at.

If someone had asked, "How many options did you consider?", an honest answer would have been, "Uh, well..........one. But it's the best of those we considered. I want to stress that."

My favorite part was how the President won't be making any money off the deal.

This is a fundamental shift in the way government works
not in the graft and corruption
but the bringing it into the open

People have always gotten into politics to make money
now they no longer even have to lie about it
The Government is not official a money laudering scheme
to take money from the populace and line the pockets of the Elites

    Second Amendment.

It should not have even been in the consideration set.

I guess it turns out that the only thing preventing a President from this level of blatant scandal and corruption was the illusion that they would be held accountable, or at the very least the personal shame they would feel.

Trump admin kicked in the door protecting us from this kind of overt wrongdoing and simply found that it was rotted through.

Beautiful and perfect metaphor. It just rings true.

My liberal pals in SF are so so on about how awful Trump is, but he's just an experiment that has shown something rotten about our system. I kind of applaud how amazingly consistent, selfish and predictable he is. In that way, he's kind of a perfect experimental trial. You could never even try to test the system with someone so consistently oblivious to norms and what we used to call rules.

I had to click on ignored content to see @pgabriel's "I don't care" take.

If someone doesn't care about the most fundamental laws of our country and the basic structure of our mutual government, okay, why would anyone care about anything that poster brings to a discussion? They may as well be a foreign bot, practically speaking. Totally uninteresting and literally worthless. *shrug*

Trump didn't run for President to have tbe G7 at Doral. There is spirit and letter of the law. This literally affects no one. Who cares

The host of the G7 isnt an ordinary everyday contract. Its a once a year event held in different countries each year.

Its not like bridge building contracts. This contract isnt going to make Trump or break anyone else.

It's a mistake to phrase the emoluments clause as merely an issue of politicians making extra cash. It's about the wellbeing of the nation.
If a politician is open to influence through money and favors (bribery) they could act in ways very much to the detriment of the nation. A million 'what ifs' present themselves:
What if a foreign nation bribes an official to ease the path for offshoring half a million American jobs?
What one of our powerful politicians was willing to betray an ally, causing long-term political/military setbacks in exchange for riches?
What if a foreign national 'persuades' new trade-based legislation that hurts the American people?
What if a powerful US politician uses the assistance of a foreign power to be elected or re-elected, and is beholden to them?

Now, you may say that funneling taxpayer dollars to Trump properties is merely a ho-hum more boring method of disgustingly sleazy corruption, but it's more than bucks. It's demonstrating that the public servant doesn't have the interests of his constituents (in the presidents' case, the nation) at heart. It's demonstrating that they are open to influence and can be compromised.

I don't know your posting style well but I can't help but interpret this as a defense of the president. Like Texxx, dachuda, and others, you claim not to be a fan, but you have to go out of your way to minimize wrongdoing in his defense, even though you 'don't care.'

Its a one time event. IOW is not much foreign influence coming with a week long less than once a year event. Thats my point. It doesn't come with foreign influence over him

Its not Boeing building fighter jets
