There are ethics rules that govern. I do not know the rules of ethics for those running for a federal office. Many of the rules are odd. The contract language does not trump ethics rules and don’t trump public policy. There are limitations to non disclosure agreements as there are with non competition clauses. The same is true with prenuptial agreements. Simply contracting for something isn’t iron clad. Also most contracts are not evenly negotiated and courts no that. The issue is whether it is in the public’s good to have non disclosure agreements for employees of the President that work for his campaign. There is a clear path for a Judge to rule either way. I favor transparency, which is sorely lacking the last 18 years and has only gotten monumentally worse under Obama and now Trump.
Fair points, and I do agree on the transparency part...I've just mostly given up on it. If most people realized all the crap that goes on that they don't know about, they'd probably start a revolution and physically oust everyone in power. The worst offenders are often those who speak about transparency the most, too. But I don't like the idea contracts just not applying when someone later decides they don't. Fraught with all sorts of issues. If this is just applying current law, that's ok. Prenuptial agreements are similar. What's the point of having any contracts/agreements like this if they can just be thrown out later? If that's the case, we should really just stop allowing such things in the first place. As for being evenly negotiated...that shouldn't be a reason either. they are never evenly negotiated...one side or the other will always have some advantage to some degree. The whole point of our system is for each side to try to get an advantage...that both do so exactly equally would almost never happen.

Due to circumstances, someone may willingly sign a contract one could easily say the other party took advantage of them, without their being anything wrong with that. Consider the example of an NBA player who opts out of his contract, for going, say, $17M (I'm talking about you, Nerlens! ), doesn't get a new deal, signs for whatever minimum value is (many many millions less), just because that was the only offer out there....no one is really be 'exploited', they just found themselves in a bad situation that another party 'took advantage' of...getting them for many millions less than they might otherwise paid. The player's situation was definitely being taken advantage of, but no party was really harmed or exploited.
