Indeed... but for what it’s worth, Hicks has some of the best at bats for them all night.

My friends were panicking after we lost game 1, as we had to stay up from 1-4am to watch that awfulness while we were in London.

We were quite reassured, however, to find out that it was only the fourth time in ALCS history that the home team got shut out in game 1. The previous three times, the home team that lost game 1 went on to win the WORLD SERIES.

Maybe that loss was just the wakeup call that we needed.

Pretty great game all around. The first inning sucked, but it was a lot of tough luck. Actually thought it was as good as I've seen Greinke as an Astros despite the walks. Even the HR James gave up was a quality pitch, just great hitting.

    Ortiz picked the Dodgers to win it all prior to the playoffs. He had similar luck two years ago when he was wrong about almost every single series he picked. Last year, he was right about every series (probably because Boston ended up winning it all);
broadcast team even had a video montage making fun of him for the last two seasons of predictions.

A-Rod picked the Yankees to win it all (of course)...Thomas and Dontrelle Willis picked the Astros. Ortiz did slap the Yankees helmet that A-Rod put on his head and knocked it to the ground.

Ortiz literally went 0-4 this year in his 1st round picking.

Ortiz, a greater baseball mind, we will never know. ;)

Hard to not love his career, though, especially his last year.

Looking a lot like last year as well, where Astros won game 1 in Boston only to lose the next 4...

Hopefully have the same end result as the Sox did last year too :)

    Okay a couple questions...

    1. Is Cole scheduled for game 6 or 7?

    2. If he’s scheduled for game 6, would he head back to Houston tonight or would he go back with the team early in the morning? I know during regular season he would go back the day before so he could get normal rest and everything.

Game 6 (if needed) will be a bullpen game, I think. Cole is set for Game 7 (if needed).

Hopefully neither of these games will be needed. :)

    Some random thoughts:
    1. Whatever angst I had regarding the Astros, the 2017 team cured it. I can now be pleased when they win and shrug off adversity, no more throwing the remote in disgust
    2. The announcing team trying to prop up the Yankee errors was worst than an overprotective father at a Little League game. I hope that they still took LeMahieu for his postgame burger and fries
    3. While I enjoyed the Astros playing well and winning, watching the Yankees rip the heart out of their own fans with their error meltdown is the highlight of the game
    4. Homeruns are great and all, but they have lost their "specialness" for me with the way the frequency in which both teams crank them out. I miss run creation: single, hit and run, sac fly. Homerun, strikeout or flyball seems to be 95% of the outcomes.

I've been seeing clips of that dude everywhere.

Only bandwagoners look cool cheering, that is much closer to the genuine fan reaction. From dread to release. I don't know if I could watch a playoff game in the stadium, I'm a nervous wreck walking a small marathon around my living room. Unless it's close friends I have to be alone because I am NOT a pleasant person to be around.

Man these Astros make bagwell and biggio look like trash in postseason. I think baggy only hit 2 postseason homers.

For all the grief Ortiz gets, I remember a pre-game show a couple of years ago that they were reviewing the previous game. The other guys were going "why would you walk Altuve there? He's not a threat." Ortiz had to set them straight with poetic verses about Altuve's swing.
