Rather Fertitia sell the team to someone who isn’t broke.

I’d love to see him sell the team. Not happening unless someone blows him away with an offer, and that’s not happening.
Maybe we can get some help from the league so the team can find its way back into Chinao_O

But yes, would be awesome if the team stuck it to everyone by winning.

    No one handled this perfectly.

However I do think that the NBA front office deserves some credit.

If the NFL had the type of presence in China that the NBA does, and China privately asked for an executive to be fired or reprimanded...... It would happen.

The league office waffled but at the end of the day they did stand by the principles they claim are significant.

I still think Morey's job is in jeopardy as there is a lot of animosity and there are teams and players and agents that are not happy.... however at least the league didn't take him to task.

So let me get this straight,

Daryl Morey, an American citizen, tweeted a very lukewarm support of protesters, while he was in America, on an app that most of China can't even read, and that China "requested" that he'd be fired?

So a foreign country is trying to call shots in America? A foreign country is trying to dictate freedom of speech on American soil?

Yeah the NBA might want to rethink if they want to continue doing business with China. They're completely unreasonable, and if this set them off, then this was inevitable, with or without Morey.

Some Chinese fans were acting like the Chinese government didn't care about Morey's tweet, that the outrage was purely from the people. Well now we see straight from Silver's mouth that the Chinese government cared a whole bunch and tried to get a US citizen fired for their political beliefs. Not that we didn't already have a bunch of examples of that government acting like a bunch of babies. They're doing this around the world.

    Sorry.

The CCP killed 45,000,000 of their own people without consequence.
They slaughtered 10,000 of their own peaceful citizens 30 years ago
they have 2,000,000 of their own people in concentration camps and have complete control of the press.
People that are not hopelessly brainwashed will side with people that just want to preserve their privacy, right to personal opinions and freedom.

You lost....... just move on.... it is easy to pull the wool over the eyes of a beaten down nation, the rest of the world saw the truth.

The Streisand effect is a phenomenon whereby an attempt to hide, remove, or censor a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely, usually facilitated by the Internet.[1] It is an example of psychological reactance, wherein once people are aware that some information is being kept from them, their motivation to access and spread it is increased.[2]

United suing skipplagged is another big example of this effect.

Silver did a much better job in this than Fertitta.

That said, Fertitta is the one who could have fired Daryl, and he didn't.

He should still back him more publicly, but I give him credit for not caving.

He did. He said he had the best GM in basketball and that he and Morey are "good".

You cannot expect someone that isn't political (TF) to come out strong on the issue if it isn't something he is comfortable doing.

He never said he disagreed or agreed with Morey..... what he said is that the Houston Rockets are not a political organization.

Yeah, but he’s been awfully quiet. Maybe they are just playing it smart here, I don’t know.

That said, even with TF saying that, did you get the feeling he really meant it? My gut says he would fire him if it wouldn’t create a ton of backlash; he knows it will.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, I just don’t have any confidence in Fertitta at all.

Yes and while it sounds absurd from our perspective, it isn't from theirs.

The CCP has an absolute iron clad hold on their citizens. They have eliminated privacy, free press, individuality. They were responsible for the death of 45,000,000 of their own people and freely put their people in camps without any consequences. So the CCP thought they could exert some degree of pressure on people and organizations in the rest of the world..... and they have has success in doing so to so extend the last 5 years.

Right now there is zero benefit to Tilman speaking because he still wants to salvage the relationship he has with China. He wants this to go away as quick as possible. Daryl cost his employer many millions of dollars, a lot of CEO's would have fired him..... and I know for a fact that Tilman discussed firing Daryl with both the NBA league office and others high in Tilman's circle...... so it was a legitimate issue.
