It takes 2 days, scroll through and order before bed. Come home from work 2 days later and boom there. I don’t have time to goto the store as I’m super busy, I don’t mind paying extra for this convenience

Best Buy is doing quite well actually. They reported strong numbers in 2018. Now whether it lasts is another question. Now if Amazon manages to crack the services business, then Best Buy is in trouble. But until then, Best Buy should be ok. Best Buy can sell products at Amazon level margins (via price matching) as long as they can consistently upsell services (primarily Geek Squad).

Micro Center is private so who knows how their finances are. I do hope they survive. I never cared for Fry's but Micro Center is still my go to for most things.

I go to the NASA location occasionally here in Houston. Half the time I leave empty handed thinking WTF did I go here?

    It’s bad:

-Massive. Absolutely huge. I really don’t have time to trek across the acres.

    -Pricing can be downright high

-Gloomy. Seriously, it’s depressing to go in.

-Hard to get in to the parking lot. For some reason they have zero entrances on two sides that have streets.

-Disengaged, bored, aloof and socially awkward staff. Would it kill them to be more discerning with hiring and hire some people with social skills or at least some cute girls? There was a girl who flirted hard with me once, but it was when my wife was with me. She wasn’t pleased.

-Cattle fence checkout. Have to walk through miles of impulse buy items to get to the checkout. Again this place is ridiculously big.

-Buying online for pickup is a joke- their inventory system is terrible. But to be fair online pickup is bad in most brick and mortar stores.

-Returns process from 1990. I love watching the Matrix find my purchase on the mainframe.

I hope that if they go under a Microcenter will move to the Clear Lake area. Smaller, newer stuff, more lighting (I can’t believe that is even a thing to mention) more engaged staff.

Frys has a nifty driver delivery option where I live. Seems decent when it's available.

I'm not exactly sure what you didn't understand about my comment. The Fry's in SW Houston has a huge piano in the middle of the store. They also started selling knock off perfumes and have dedicated a whole isle to it.

I wish they’d open a Micro Center in Austin. For a city that’s considered an important center for computer and software development, not just in Texas, but nationwide, there isn’t much to chose from.

I wonder how much it will cost to buy the place and just live in it. In fact, with housing shortage in many places (especially here in CA), why not convert dead malls to housing?

I can't remember where I read it (or heard it on a podcast, maybe?), but I remember seeing this idea posited recently. The idea would be to turn abandoned malls into homeless shelters or affordable housing.

The truest sign of the retail apocalypse:

As we get deeper and deeper into the electronic age, an electronics store can't stay in business.

Yeah, I went to the one in Austin a week or so ago.....it was awful. Nothing but empty shelves. Computer section had NOTHING but a few hard drives.

Here I thought I'd be able to grab some thermal paste.

    Thanks Amazon....

Yep, advertising stuff they don't even have in stock.

It was damn depressing being there. What a let down. I used to love the store.

I wish we had something like micro-center in Austin.
