my guess if there is an opt in and trade and it requires gordon and capela. At butler opt in and trade we wouldnt be hard capped so we could fill out the roster easier

    Paul (38 million)
    Harden(37 million)
    Butler (19.8 Million)
    Tucker (8 Million
Deandre Jordan (Taxpayer MLE) (5 million)

Biannual Exception player (maybe a wilson chandler?) (3.6 million)
Gerald Green (1.6 Million) Vet Min
    Hartenstein (1.4 million)
    Clark (1.4)
Danuel House 4 year contract offer (Like 2million per season)
Vet Minimum Couple players (3.2 Million)

Thats around 115-120 Million I think. So plenty of room. We probably could use the full MLE in this case since we wouldnt be tax payers and get a better player and sign DJ to maybe a Biannual exception instead. This opt in and trade is really the ideal situation. We will know saturday if that is happening. If not we have to gut the team completely to get butler in because we have to stay under that hard cap.

If we actually got Butler, then Nene would be no chance of being on the team, he would have to be moved so we could pad out the roster.

    Essentially we could have
    Paul 38.5
    Harden 38.15
    Butler 32.7 (approx?)
    Tucker 8.39
    Davis 1.65 (ng)
    Clark 1.4
    Hartenstein 1.4 (ng)
    Chioza 1.4 (ng)
    Frazier 1.4 (ng)

Salary cap is projected at 109 mill
Lux tax is projected at 132 mill
The Apron line is projected at 138.2 mill (which would be a hard number the Rockets could not exceed in 2019-20 if they S&T for Butler)

So, given the tax line, and the requirement to field a roster of 14 players, it would leave the Rox something like 6-7million to split amongst 5 roster spots to keep Tilman out of luxury tax land. If he ponies up and is willing to spend it, then you've got probably enough to find a few decent pieces to round out the roster.

Fantasize about how to spend that all you like - the reality is the people will be brought in on non-guaranteed contracts so that Morey can flip if required.

luxury tax line and hard cap are different. Hard cap is the apron line. Thats more like 138-139 Million

Since I saw someone post a pic of Chris Paul recently hanging with Ariza...

    Paul
    Harden
    Jimmy Butler (6'8")
Trevor Ariza ($5.7 mil MLE) (6'8")
    Tyson Chandler (vet min) (7'0")

    Tucker
    D. House ($3.6 mil BAE) (6'7")
    Hartenstein (7'0")
    Anthony Tolliver (vet min) (6'8")
    G. Green (vet min)
    Luol Deng (vet min) (6'9")
    Ben McLemore (vet min)
    Clark (6'8")

We would have tons of veteran defenders with length. We can afford to rest the older guys because of depth. Butler, Ariza, Tucker, and Deng would be a nice defensive rotation at forward.

Ariza, Tucker, House, Tolliver, and Green all shoot around 40% from corner three.

You can go small with and still have 2 6'8" defenders...
    Paul, Harden, Tucker, Butler, Ariza

Yeah, I wanna see Morey pull that off, adding Lopez and Randle AFTER trading for Butler.

Morey will be shopping in the clearance section for a while this offseason if we manage to get Jimmy.

Some vet min/low salary guys I’d be interested in are Robin Lopez, Ed Davis, Taj Gibson, Trevor Ariza, Aaron Baynes, Jake Layman, Brook Lopez, Terrence Ross, Danny Green, Satoransky.

You'd have $115.75m tied up in Harden , CP3 , Butler and Tucker with the apron set at ~138m leaving you 22.25m and 10 spots to fill.

Assume you keep Hartenstein and Clark at $1,416,852 each and then Davis at $1,645,357 leaving you about 17.75 to fill out 7 roster spots..

    Harden
    Cp3
    Buckets
    Tucker
    Hartenstein
    Clark
    Davis

    $17.75m and 7 roster spots.

You'll have the T-MLE of about 5.7 , the BAE of about 3.6m and 5 minimum deals at $1,618,486 which leaves you about 357k short of the apron.

Really tough to predict the bottom half of the roster …. but you have to start with a big then you can look at House and Rivers. After that , its a crap shoot.

We could also resign Shump to like a 10-15 mil contract and trade him for another player with the same salary.
