That is true. But how much leverage is it when Butler has plenty of teams willing to offer him a maximum salary contract if he’s willing to forgo the fifth year? It’s not like it’s a five-year supermax with Philadelphia or bust for him.

They will only be traded if butler says yes. These deals are of course contingent. As much as I love PJ, I think now is the time to deal him because he is getting older.

Totally let's trade 3 key rotation players for 1 when we already have a depth issue. If Chris Paul gets injured like he usually does, lineup will be looking like G-Leaguer/Harden/Butler/Vet min signing/vet min signing

So is there any scenario that doesn't involve JB opting in where we can get him without dealing any of Clint, Paul and PJ?

If we moved all of Capela, Gordon, Tucker and Nene, I think we would be able to use a full non-taxpayer MLE, and BAE which could be huge.

    Full non-taxpayer MLE options -

    Centers - B.Lopez, D.Jordan, D.Dedmon

    Forwards - T.Young, J.Green, A.Aminu

    Guard - D.Green

    BAE options -

    Centers - N.Noel, R.Holmes, N.Vonleh, E.Davis

    Forward - T.Ariza, D.Carroll

    Guard - W.Ellington

    Veteran minimum options -

    Centers - K.O'Quinn, M.Muscala, C.Diallo, S.Mejri

    Forwards - D.House, T.Sefelosha, M.Scott, A.Toliver, Jeff Green

    Guards - A.Rivers, K.Pope, R.Bullock, J.Holiday, G.Temple

Losing Tuck, Capela and Gordon would be tuff, but if we could align the right combo of MLE, BAE and Vet-Min players alongside the addition of Butler, we could make a significant improvement from last year.

You would have to make sure you still went over the cap with butler. You dont want to cut too much and be under the 109 and only have the room exception. Its better to be over the cap then right under it.

But getting rid of all those players you would have about 78 million in salary with Harden, Paul, and Hartenstein. So trading for a butler max deal is right at the 109 cap with those 4 players. We shouldnt need to get rid of tucker in this scenario to still use those exceptions. Tucker only makes 8.4 million so adding him you would have 5 players under contract and at around 117. Thats still 21-22 million under the apron. Full MLE is 9, BAE is what 4? Thats still 8-9 million under the apron with 7 players on roster. bet theyd split the MLE with a couple players, and fill it out for vet min

    Yes.

If Butler opted in his salary would only be 19.8 million, Hou could package Shumpert (S&T 13.2 mill, expiring essentially) with Nene(3.8 mill exp) which would come out to a total of roughly 17 million, by using the 1.25x trade multiplier those two alone could work financially for Butler.

Value wise, I think Hou would absolutely have to dump Shump and Nene to a 3rd team because Philly would want to use their cap space, which would cost at least a first, and then we would have to send at least a 1st to Philly as well for Butler.

So if Jimmy wanted to do us a solid as CP3 did, we could hypothetically get him at the cost of 2 or 3 future first, alongside the salary of Shump/Nene, all while keeping all of CP3, Tucker, Gordon, Capela without being hard-capped meaning we could use our taxpayer MLE, the BAE as well.

But absolutely everyone is saying Butler is 100% going to opt out, so this is a dream scenario, not because Morey couldn't pull it off, but because JB probably won't participate.

And pick up a chunk of Paul's salary while you're at it.

The Butler deal would be executed in a 3 or 4 team deal, Paul & Harden's salary (76.6 mill) Butlers starting salary at the max (32.7 mill) alone is 109.3 mill, not counting for Hartenstein/Clark/Chiozza/Davis and all of the roster min holds. No way we can go anywhere close to under the cap in a Butler S&T deal.

We would have to get rid of Tucker if we wanted to use a full MLE and BAE, to not hit the hard cap of 139 million.

So first we are trading one of them for a pick and them another one of them packaged with a pick for Jimmy. I guess this is the plan
