WaPo article this morning, "Beto O’Rourke, other Democrats see the downside of releasing tax returns." In other words, be careful what you wish for. https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...bc984dc9eec_story.html?utm_term=.1b1f8ece2ad5
"The Media Sprinted To Support Mayor Pete… And Ran Over Beto In The Process." in other words Mayor Pete has made Beto obsolete: Hey, do you remember all of the excitement over Betomania? It was all the rage for at least a week or so back in January or early February. Karen Townsend pondered the question a little while back, asking whatever happened to all the Beto excitement. At the time, she proposed that O’Rourke might run into some trouble making the transition from flavor of the week to a “regular” candidate needing to flesh out his proposals and stand out from the rest of the field. I’m sure that’s part of what we’re seeing, but this week Jack Shafer, writing at Politico, has identified another factor that may explain the missing candidate mystery. Beto’s earned media almost entirely dried up after most of the press found a new savior to fall in love with… Mayor Pete Buttigieg. https://hotair.com/archives/2019/04/18/media-sprinted-support-mayor-pete-ran-beto-process/
Just a fact. Virtually nobody gives as much to charity as they pay in taxes. In Scandinavia many Christians see it as their Christian duty to pay their relatively high taxes. Here, many Christians are unconcerned about the actual amount of help that the unfortunate receive. Thanks Fox News and American right wing "Christianity" for this sorry state of affairs. Guys such as libertarian Catholic Paul Ryan have devoted their lives to defunding social welfare programs.
Faux progressives? Is that the same as Bernie is a Faux Democrat?I You guys crack me up, you would have a leg to stand on if Bernie had the balls to run Independent.
Of course releasing tax returns has downside for candidates - it's not like you're going to find something "good" in tax returns. Doing so is supposed to demonstrate a commitment of transparency in government - the benefit is to the American people, not the candidate.
Come on man. Please stop it with the litmus test. It’s not Bernie or Bust aka Trump. Bernie will be supported by the same people who now prefer Beto if he wins, but can’t say the same about Bernie fans with posts like this. Why the need to bash just to try and lift up your guy? Let’s not eat our own please.
Idk about the "faux progressives" but the brand of politics that Beto uses, namely substanceless platitudes and overblown fanciful rhetoric needs to be purged from politics. The man consistently disappoints when it comes to policy substance and thinks he can just "rockstar" his way to victory. All that being said, I do recognize that I am holding Beto (and all politicians) to a very high bar. The opposition (Republicans and Trump) are horrible, dangerous, and pathetic. Thus, I will of course vote for Beto or whoever comes out on the democratic side. However, for the long term health of governance in this country, we need substance oriented leaders that state very concrete promises for which they can later be held accountable for. A "vision" for America is meaningless without a damn good roadmap to get there.
Did he stand on top of a table? You can’t be taken seriously unless you stand on top of a table when you speak.
Hey. like Bernie has pledged I will vote even for Biden or anyone against Trump. All the Dems have a good chance, so why not go for the gold -- Bernie-- and real advances in social justice?. The old Harvard/Yale Clinton/Obama group and their co-dependent well paid consultants think they are so smart with all the answers with their cautious incrementalism, slightly more progressive than the GOP as they move hard right. Nonetheless these geniuses lost Congress and the majority of the state legislatures and governors and led to Trump.
Beto's first policy proposal is a big one, $5 trillion over the next 10 years to fight climate change. CNN summarizes the details at https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/29/politics/beto-orourke-climate-change-policy/index.html
A "major" climate group has criticized Beto's plan for departing from the Green New Deal https://thehill.com/policy/energy-e...hind-green-new-deal-blasts-betos-climate-plan
Judy Curry on the other hand gives Beto's plan an overall thumbs up and says it is a significant improvement over the Green New Deal https://judithcurry.com/2019/04/29/betos-climate-action-plan/
Its amazing to me that it’s considered a mockery to provide options for legislative pathways to serious problems like climate change. I would much rather be the party that wants to debate the Beto plan vs the Green New Deal than the party of mockery and hate memes.
