Why didn't the Rockets trade for Reggie Bullock?

Here's some essential info on Bullock.

    27 years old
    6'7
    SG/SF
    2.5 million expiring contract
.400% 3pt shooter for his career
Traded for Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and a 2nd round pick

Reggie Bullock at 6'7 would make him the tallest perimeter player not named Gerald Brick on our team. He would also be the best catch and shoot guy if he were slotted as the starting SF. Judging by the fact that he was Harden's primary defender on the Lakers squad, he seems to be able to play competent or at the very least annoying defense. The only downside i could see is his hair, which is admittedly puke inducing.

So why didn't the Rockets beat the Lakers offer of a random euro thats going to be out of the NBA in 2 years and a 2nd round pick? We traded a first round pick and a 2nd rounder for a 6'5 wing that cant shoot instead. Is Darling Morey this incompetent? Is it because our *gasp* only objective this year was to get under the lux tax and on court talent be damned?

Well, the Rockets tried to trade for Ellington per @Codman and Morey indicated Miami backed out (per Kristine Leahy interview).

So they made a move for a wing shooter. But Riley backed out.

Being totally honest..... this was the trade of the whole deadline deals that pissed me off.... this is the one that was so obvious that it’s silly that it was never done.....

I believed this was a totally doable trade for us..... I did however believe that Detroit had no reason to trade him but if he was made available to everyone then we should have been the first ones at the door....

    This one stung a little

We did not know his hair cut could defend Harden so well.

You just answered your own question in the first few lines of your post.

Too young. Need our players to be closer to being men. Closer to 40. Joe Johnson is a badass.

But even if we overlook that, he's too tall to play anything but center in Houston. I just don't see the fit.

Reggie would have been a fine addition but the Rockets have their Reggie Bullock that they refuse to pay/convert.

OP is a bit slow on the uptake.

Yes. Yes it is because we had to avoid Lux Tax.

Also, slightly related, Mikyhailuk is beter than Chriss...

But our good owner said Luxury tax is not a concern. He wouldn't lie to us would he?
    Not nearly as good IMO.
