    For both, the white house gets to push CNN further down the rabbit hole into a general view of crackpot territory, but cable news is a niche business, it's not about broad appeal, it's about a niche loyalist appeal and that works for CNN too.

    Here is a better explanation of what this latest announcement of the revocation of Acosta's press pass:

    So there apparently were standards already in place and Acosta appears to have violated them. It appears that the bolded part may be the key element that the White House neglected to communicate in the first revocation.

    So now it appears that all the requirements of the judges stay have likely been satisfied.

    Funny how easily you buy the trump stories. What went from a "he physically assaulted an intern... see, see here is a doctored video proving it" to "he didn't give the microphone back to the intern" to "he broke newly discovered (made up) rules of etiquette".

    Of course, rules of etiquette from someone that tweeted out a junior high expletive re-spelling of a member of House's name? Please...

    Whataboutism much? It is Acosta's behavior at these press events that are in question here, not Trump's.

    As far as the assault story, that was a mistake in my opinion to go that route - not that it was necessarily inaccurate. The etiquette and decorum angle is the way to go here. And the judge's request that procedures and rules be followed is quite reasonable. So, now it appears that the rules that were in place prior to the press conference in question are being followed.

    Please... you are digging yourself deeper in the hole underneath trump's whitehouse outhouse.

    First... whataboutism? trump is the person driving this war with the media (especially with Acosta and CNN). He is the one driving the creating a "etiquette". Yet trump is the worst person in the room when it comes to behavior.

    Second, the judge already told trump that the larger ruling would likely go against trump. If trump had any sense he would drop it while he was behind. Of course, trump has no sense. I'd bet that judge is even madder at trump now.

    It has become abundantly clear that sheep will continue to blindly follow. Trump understands this; make up any sort of gibberish, and the vast majority of his base will eat it up without question, and actually use the made-up gibberish to defend him. Here's a hint; if the administration's defense changes 3 or 4 times; it is probably a tell-tale sign of them throwing different things on the wall, and hoping one sticks.

    Cue the "well, you guys are blindly following CNN, go back to California."

    Rinse and repeat, while nothing changes.

    Perhaps someone in the white house rethought this truly boneheaded idea...

    CNN should just send somebody else. What is the obsession with acosta? Send him to cover the Tijuana border from some hard hitting journalism.

    CNN gave up journalism a long time ago. Jim Acosta is a ratings engine. Follow the money. His conflict with Trump brings in the dollars. That is what these people care about and that is why they are frantic to protect the Jim Acosta franchise.

    So Acosta and CNN responded to the White House letter threatening to revoke Acosta's press pass permanently, which requested such a reply from CNN. Attached to this letter are additional requirements for Acosta and other members of the press going forward. From now on, they get one question only, with follow-up questions only being allowed at the discretion of the White House.

    Fail to comply and you may well get the boot. Acosta assuredly will.

    Also, by giving back Acosta's pass, the White House has demonstrated that the appeals process is legitimate, so when some future appeal is denied, that will not be a credible complaint.

    They have now given everyone in the press pool all the rope they need to hang themselves with. Now we will see if they have the fortitude to follow up and enforce these new standards.

    READ THE NEW RULES: White House spells out reporter guidelines | Jamie Dupree - AJC

    Here are the new rules as set out by the White House, which were contained in an email sent on Monday afternoon through the White House Pool:

    Sent: Monday, November 19, 2018 4:06 PM
    Subject: In-Town Pool Report #3- Acosta/CNN Letter

    From Press Secretary Sarah Sanders:

    This afternoon we have notified Jim Acosta and CNN that his hard pass has been restored. We have also notified him of certain rules that will govern White House press conferences going forward. They are listed here:
    1. A journalist called upon to ask a question will ask a single question and then will yield the floor to other journalists;
    2. At the discretion of the President or other White House official taking questions, a follow-up question or questions may be permitted; and where a follow up has been allowed and asked, the questioner will then yield the floor;
    3. “Yielding the floor” includes, when applicable, physically surrendering the microphone to White House staff for use by the next questioner;
    4. Failure to abide by any of rules (1)-(3) may result in suspension or revocation of the journalist’s hard pass.
    We have created these rules with a degree of regret. For years, members of the White House press corps have attended countless press events with the President and other officials without engaging in the behavior Mr. Acosta displayed at the November 7, 2018 press conference. We would have greatly preferred to continue hosting White House press conferences in reliance on a set of understood professional norms, and we believe the overwhelming majority of journalists covering the White House share that preference. But, given the position taken by CNN, we now feel obligated to replace previously shared practices with explicit rules.

    LOL... the media should just stop showing. trump's admin has made a mockery of the press conferences anyway... with two of the worst press secretaries of all time and by reducing the frequency and length of press conferences (trump only had one (1) press conference in 2017). The American public should visibility into their government, but like cockroaches that scurry for cover trump and his admin fear the light that the media shines.

    At some point, the nightmare of trump's presidency will end. And hopefully order will be restored.

    Again, shs lies.

    No Longer Daily, White House Press Briefings Fade As Trump Does The Talking

    Again, trump's presidency will end. At that point, will Democrats continue these ridiculous rules? Will they exclude fox news and other republican news providers? Or will they restore order to the presidency?

    Eh. White House lost here but Acosta is being intentionally inflammatory. Not to get to the news which I would respect, but to create conflict.
