I used to be in the same camp as you (4/80 should get it done) but I don't think that's the case if he's turning down $17 mill a year. This dude (or his agent) wants a big payday when the current economics doesn't make it possible.

Unless he developed a 3 point shot over the offseason or somehow start hitting FTs at an 85% clip, Clint Capela is not worth $25 million a year.

This is up to Capela but i think the rockets won’t pay more than 70-80m for 4yrs.
wow really? If I was Clint k would be happy with that. Is it true that Clint’s agent is the same as dmo?

Cc it’s up to you you either take the 85m or take the QO. I thought the highest we would go was 80m. 85 is good enough for what you bring and base on the market this season.
He will risk not even getting pay half that if he goes on FA. Just look what happen to DMO

Well then his agent isn't very good at math and probability, and risk analysis.

If he does not take 20M/year now, and decides to take QO, then he is betting that next offseason someone will give him 25M per year but that is not a certainty!!!

And even if he does get 25m/year, he still loses out on about 15M this year alone. So that 15M net gain over 5 years is NOT worth the gamble for me.

Might as well take that 10M loss over 5 years now and sign that 20M/year contract for 5 years!!

And if he gets injured this season, say something like Cousins, while he is on a QO, then its all down the drain!!! You dont take a gamble like that on your first big contract over a "mere" 10M!

Negotiate at 20M and ink the deal Capela!

5/85 feels like a "you're a good player, but this is free agency 2018...sorry" offer. Fair might be 5/100, but unless his reps can get a "fair" offer, he might have to settle.

At 5/85, Capela could cost himself $12 million (plus or minus a million or two depending on the structure of the deal) by taking the QO. He better be sure he can get a big-time deal next summer to make up for it. That agent would be taking a big time risk by advising him to take the QO.

The way things have unfolded and informaiton has leaked out, there's no doubt his agent is not very good period.

5 for 100 sounds amazing for Clint and the Rockets. Anything less is a Daryl Morey score.

So happy to see 5 years instead of 4, regardless of the deal.

Look on the bright side: If we give Capela anything between $20M-$25M/yr, that might be the thing that drives Holic away for good.

    Win-win, baby!

I'd gladly spend a few mil of Tilman's riches for a cause like that.

Unfortunately we've seen him rise from the (tr)ashes like a Phoenix under a different moniker before.

I'm still chuckling at the posters who thought 4/48 was a "good faith" offer

We already made one mistake with a certain individual.

So just let him walk and give up on competing for titles during this window?

Rockets - Pull the deal off the table and let him sign the qualifying offer.

there are plenty of reasons why we might not win a championship during this window but I am sure not signing capela to a ludicrous contract is pretty low on that list.

5/85 is a very fair offer for Capela.

Hell the Rockets made the offer after no one signed Capela to an offer sheet.

BJ Armstrong is a terrible agent.

There is no reason a decent agent couldn’t get this worked out if the Rockets are already offering 5/85.

If his agent advises him to walk away from an $85M deal, then he should be fired for gross incompetence. That's an incredibly fair offer in this market.

Clint, you have weak hands, you're bad at FTs, can't shoot beyond 4 ft from the rim, can't create your own shot so others have to spoon feed you to the rim..... And you're balking at 5/85. Which of those weaknesses do you plan to fix to make you worthy of a contract at even that amount.
