We don't know what kind of offers Cleveland received for the 8th pick during the season, but they would certainly flip it for Kawhi if they could (the 8th pick is very, very unlikely to net you a superstar). Also remember that during the season the BKN pick looked like it was going to be much better than 8th, so the value is also less today.

The moment LeBron opts OUT of the last year of his deal, he intends to sign a max free agent deal with a team with cap space in July. Let me be more clear... Kawhi won’t commit to them so lebron won’t commit so the Cavs won’t gamble. If lebron would commit, sure, without him committing no way and I don’t think there’s any way he will commit to them before the draft. Kawhi certainly won’t commit to resign there so they’d be taking a big risk
Cavs don't need a commit from Kawhi, they just have to value a year to the Finals with Lebron and Kawhi more than the 8th pick. That's a slam dunk...fo' sho commitment by the Cavs. They will go all in to keep Lebron for another year, with Kawhi. Cavs will not block that trade for any reason. Pops might not do it, but Cavs would.
