Are we sure Tyrod Taylor isn't the best (potential) option?

Luck's guarantees are spread out annually; he doesn't actually get $87MM in one lump sum; he has to reach yearly milestones. If he doesn't, he won't get the $87MM.

He's guaranteed $13MM next month; $18MM in March 2018; $12MM in March 2019; $11MM in March 2020; $10MM in March 2021. Note, other than the initial year, which included his signing bonus, at no point is he guaranteed a sum anywhere close to Taylor's one-time $30.75MM, nor does he at any point have subsequent yearly salaries fully or partly guaranteed like Taylor would in 2018.

Additionally, Luck's guarantees are paid in installments. When his 2017 contract locks in next month, he'll receive his $7MM salary + $3MM of his bonus. The remaining $3MM is paid in September.

Yes, the contracts are absolutely structured differently.

And thus, if, on March 15, Luck and Taylor are involved in a career-altering accident and they can never play football again, the Bills owe Taylor $30.75MM; the Colts owe Andrew Luck $13MM.

This is the Bills having sticker-shock. Again, because I initially misread the details of Taylor's deal, I've moved closer to your ballpark, in terms of this being at least partially related to him not being worth it. But it's the magnitude of the deal that is carrying this.

In what universe is writing a check to Tyrod Taylor for $30.75MM for one year of football a "below average QB contract." Again, his *cap hit* isn't the issue, no matter how many times you want to bring it up.

It is the owner of the Bills having to literally open up his large-ass folder of checks and write one for $30.75MM that is causing the concern.

Yeah, your flaccid holier-than-thou, I-win-the-internet bullshit doesn't fly with me. At no point have I "apologized" for Tyrod Taylor.

SMH if you can't even get the numbers right, there's no point. Andrew Luck had a 32 million dollar signing bonus alone. If the day after the contract was signed he was literally broken in half they'd have had to still pay him 44 million dollars.

When Brock Osweiler was signed the Texans guaranteed 37 million dollars....if he was literally broken in half the very next day, they'd still have to pay him 37 million dollars. When

When Alex Smith was signed 3 years ago the Chiefs guaranteed 30 million dollars.....if he was literally broken in half the very next day, they still have to pay him 30 million dollars.

When Joe Flacco signed his deal last year they fully guaranteed 44 million dollars, including a 40 million dollar signing bonus.....if he was literally broken in half the very next day, they still have to pay him the 4 extra million.

Your entire premise is ridiculous and ignores the contracts that are in the league. Does it really matter if you write one big check as opposed to being legally obligated to write many checks equaling that amount? If you have the money, it doesn't.

QB's get multiple years guaranteed all the time, in fact contracts like the one Kaepernick had where he had to earn it year by year is the exception.

Lets see the Matt Ryan contract
In 2014 (when he was good, but not great like this year) he had 2014 Base + $7.5M of 2015 base fully guaranteed on 02/05/2014 + 2014 Option Bonus: $12 million, so that meant, that he received a $12 million option bonus on the 5th day of the 2014 League Year. His 2014 and $7.5 milion of his 2015 salary became fully guaranteed on February 5, 2014, that meant, If Ryan broke his leg on March 2014, he would still getting a $30 million check, so why not cut him and do another deal, because thats too much, and remember he wasnt that great, he didnt got any mention about being a franchise QB in 2014, why the Falcons didnt do the same?

Look how he had a $7.5 million check of his 2015, before the 2014 started, so he had a guaranteed most of his 2015 salary base guaranteed, not even a week after the 2014 superbowl, why the Falcons didnt cut him and did a new deal?

In 2016, the Bills had an operating income of $26MM; they rank 32nd in franchise valuation, income and revenue. So, yes - it matters.

All of their receivers got hurt and they had Ryan as their coach.

And even worse, they had Tyrod Taylor as their QB.

NAH, bruh. Opinions ARENT allowed to have NUANCE and MORE than 1 element to it... YOU ONLY get SIMPLE 1-OR-the-OTHER choice, structured how I TELL you to choose! Not based on data and market conditions, its based on "loyalty to" and intensity level of "clinging on" to something!

Tyrod is a decent/good QB. There isnt much to show that he "sucks", over a signficant enough body of work. Who cares if its a running 1st down or passing 1st down. All that matters is MOVE THE CHAINS. A 7 yard qb run for a 1st down continues a drive just as much as 7 yds per-attempt pass completions.

The knock on running QB's is theyre too dumb to use their arms and brains. Again thats a simplistic either/or. Its possible to have combo of BOTH. Every QB thats not ELITE has some kind of flaw. Duh its why they're not elite. But there's still enough opening where good non-elite QBS can win SB's, so theyre not all cast-offs

Nobody ever said Mariota was dumb. They only "say" it of the black guys.

It's pretty sad honestly.....and people are legitimately trying to defend Tyrod Taylor as a QB. I guess people got tired of starting threads suggesting that Micheal Vick or Vince Young come out of retirement to be the next QB of the Texans and decided to post something equally ridiculous instead.

I get the point that most are saying here but the bottom line is Taylor is a better QB then Osweiler.

It's not close. He only got $10 million guaranteed too and his cap hit is less than osweilers

So once he gets released from the Bills we should go after him or wait for Romo.

LOL, the Tyrod Taylor is just fan BS no different than when they were calling for Vince Young, Brett Favre (after retirement) or Micheal Vick (after retirement) to be signed. The organization wouldn't even consider it and it's a sign of fans being kind of stupid that it is even brought up in the first place.

Even though he maybe better than what's currently on the team.
