I was actually expecting it to be his son. Will he be on the sidelines every game? Road games too? Or more of a consulting/behind the scenes gig? The hiring is a bad look for Harden...

I would have rather just hired the type of Head Coach that understands how to build a culture and hold players accountable, emphasizes discipline, instead of hiring a bunch of specialists.

    Didn't he help Micheal Beasley?

Probably so although I'm expecting that to lead to another brick wall. As for Lucas, I'm not a fan - I'm pleased that he was able to turn his life around and all that but I remember when his drug use nearly destroyed the Rockets. I've never forgiven him for that.

I agree with this. That said, it's also a bit contradictory on your part. If you feel like they've done a good job, then you should trust this hire for that very reason.

That's like saying, I think Daryl has done a good job as GM (which he has) but I can't think Mike D'Antoni is a questionable hire. It's not contradictory to question a decision.

Matt, pretty sure that was a Les decision, no? Morey looked miserable at the D'Antoni presser.

To stay on topic, I don't think the Lucas hiring is a big deal either way. I do like the hire, but I'm not saying it will move the needle either way.

It has to help for players to talk to someone who has actually been through it a lot more than most counselors that go to college with silver spoons in their mouth that know absolutely nothing about struggle.

Can we give some love to this man please.
For the past few years, so much negativity surrounding Capella, Howard and even Smith's free throws and the whole "hacka" and the number of people asking why the Rockets wouldn't get someone to help with players free throws.
Well John Lucas seems to have been working his magic recently with Capella!
Read someone posting that Capella was shooting 2500 free throws per week in pre-season. However the first few games this season didn't show improvement. But the last few games! Whoah! What a huge improvement.

    Capella FT stats: 14/15: 17.4%, 15/16: 37.9%, 16/17: 50%

But look at the games this season more closely.
Capella's first 5 games he shot 2 from 11 at the line (18%) compared to the last 5 games where he shot 10 from 15 (66%).

And I think it was Worrell on the weekends games who was saying Clint has been working with Lucas on his jump shot and even 3 pointers. I can't wait to see that!

Gold star to whomever brought Lucas in as it's been paying off recently with Capella's shooting.
