lmao he looks good because the 9'ers have a good defense and good receivers any other mediocre QB woudlve looked just as good. Overpaid and this will bite them in the ass
Bobby, you have no clue what you're talking about. What team do you root for? You sound like a Seahawk or Raider fan, talking all this smack about Kaepernick. Yes they had him under contract for this season but they need to deal with his contract now rather than him winning a superbowl this year and paying him $20+ million (Like Flacco and RWillson). Now with his contract taken care of he can focus on football and live up to his potential. Where do you simply "replace" a quarterback who is young (26) and went to a SB and NFCCG in 1.5 years and is now entering his second full season in the NFL? The reason why Seattle and the 9ers are successful is because they draft most of their stars and they have great coaches who teach these young guys to buy into their system. The 9ers ended up with 12 picks in this year's draft and 11 in the year previous. Most of them were riding the bench last year so this will be breakout seasons for most of the young guys.
They simply replaced Alex Smith, they could have simply replaced Kap, he's nothing special...if he was, they'd take the training wheels off and give him a big boy workload as a QB.
Also it's funny you bring up Flacco because they actually gave Kap more money than the Ravens gave Flacco.
Alex Smith was 8-0 and got the Chiefs to the playoffs after being last place the prior season (similar to Andrew Luck and RG3). That's why the 9ers got two 2nd round picks for him. He must be special to get that much from KC.
Heh, you think Alex Smith is "special" as well? Yikes. I guess you just have a thing for game managers. It doesn't, but Kap got 6 years $126 million.....which would be more. Texans, how is that relevant?
Actually, I kind of wonder what team you follow since you don't seem to even know how much Kap signed for.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...s-agrees-six-year-deal-worth-more-110-million It's fascinating that you think you just can just randomly stick any QB out there and win a Superbowl. If it were only so easy, Seattle would have been winning before Wilson and Baltimore would have 10 Superbowl rings right now. The reality is that if they just tried to randomly replace Kaepernick with, say, Derek Carr, they'd probably waste his first year learning the ropes and then if he sucks, waste another year or two in the process. By then, the defense is unlikely to still be elite, and their window starts closing. Teams lock up QBs that they know they can win with - Flacco, Kaepernick, etc - to big deals because they value stability and not having constant questionmarks at the QB position (see Cleveland for the last 15 years). This isn't fantasy football where you just plug and play a QB at will - you have to invest time and build a system around them, and they get better with experience in that system. SF has a very good thing going, and they aren't going to risk throwing it away and have a huge question mark at the most important position in football again.
From your link "worth more than $110 million -- including a record $61 million guaranteed." More than isn't the same as equal to. Anyway, I've had this QB argument enough times already from Mark Sanchez to Joe Flacco. No one is ever swayed, they always seem to have to find out the hard way.
Please read the details of the contract. It's very teamffriendly. We got the best go and president in the league
Yeah I like the way they structured it making most of the money not really guaranteed, that was smart. Of course his cap hit is 17 mil next season which is way more than he's worth, 18 the season after that and 21+ from there on out so I'm guessing he'll be cut within the next year or so. The GM did a good job making multiple outs for himself, in fact this was kind of a stupid deal for Kap, it all but guarantees he'll be cut fairly soon.
Well they have Harbaugh under contract for this season and next season, I don't know Kap lasts that long with the way his new deal is structured. They could cut him as soon as the end of this year.
Only if they trade him IMO, I don't see them wanting to keep Kap around when his cap hit is over 20 mil....they almost did already so it could happen.
Correct. This is a VERY team friendly deal with next to no penalty for cutting the player whenever they want if he underperforms or is seriously injured. Not only that, it sets a precedent for the team's other free agents. It would be pretty bold and selfish of guys like Crabtree, Smith, and Iupati to shoot for the moon when their QB took a very team friendly deal to try and keep the nucleus together. This contract is written the way every contract should be written. The player is paid well if he plays well. It rewards continued excellence not past performance.
It's the old misdirection to the fans, make them happy buy resigning their "superstar" QB while they destroy the real infrastructure of the team.
Why is it stupid for Kaepernick? He got $61MM guaranteed - more than any other QB in history. If he gets cut next year, he gets his $61MM for playing a year and can go sign another contract and make additional money playing elsewhere.
