Allegiant gets people to Vegas for cheap. That is their core business. There is no better sponsor for their stadium than that.

Not when the most recently built NFL stadium is called Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

These are multi billion dollar luxury palaces built for decadence and deserve to have names fitting that image.

Then why don’t you pay to name it? Oh you don’t have the money? Then let the people who financed the stadium make the best business decision for their investment. Vegas doesn’t care how people get there or if they use an old Air Force base building as a terminal. They just want to get people to the city and stadium as easily and cheaply as possible.

Pretty sure a casino investing, somehow, in a specific NFL team is some sort of red flag. As it is, having pro teams in Vegas is still a relatively new concept... one that should not really matter all that much for the most heavily betted league in the world, but you still don't want to rock the boat further.

Chill dude. No need to attack my wallet over some poorly named NFL stadium.

Also, the discussion was about the optics of the name, not the financials. The name only benefits the cheap airline. The Raiders look like shmucks. As others have suggested in this thread, something more glamorous like MGM would be a better fit. Personally, I would have gone with Caesars Coliseum.

Why would the casinos spend money to get just a marginal amount of gain? Everybody already knows the main casino brands. They don't need to pay big naming rights, in a city that they're already well known, to get exposure to fans of a league that they're already entrenched (from the betting side) with.

Meanwhile, a smaller airlines, energy company, car company, insurance companies.... they make up the bulk of advertising as it is for NFL games, and will be happy to get more mentions of that with every game, while paying a fixed rights fee.

The average stadium now changes its name every 10 years... mainly due to the company either having financial difficulty, getting bought out, or re-branding.

Yes, all true, but this is a thread where sports fans are discussing the aesthetics of naming an NFL stadium, not a business seminar on why cheap airlines or boring energy companies should invest in naming rights to boost their name recognition.

As a fan of football, I hate to see the new home of a historic Raiders franchise named after some cheap airline. I understand the sponsorship and money involved, but there are better ways to go about. Look at other recently built NFL stadiums.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium -- adds glamour and luxury to a terrific new facility in Atlanta.
Levi's Stadium - great name for historic San Francisco-based brand Levi Strauss which goes well with the 1849 gold rush and miner jeans.
MetLife Stadium -- A good fit with the New York based company known for its landmark skyscraper MetLife Building and iconic advertising with Snoopy and the Peanuts gang.

See, I'm not against corporate sponsorship of sports venues, but I wish it was done a bit more tastefully so we would have fewer Talking Stick, Smoothie King, Little Caesars arenas. That's all.

Lastly, there is no greater pride for a fanbase than to have a classic name for their stadium like Soldier Field, Arrowhead, or Lambeau Field, but those days are numbered in the NFL.

Money talks... sorry there wasn't a more glamorous company that was able to outbid Allegiant.

At least its a cool sounding name... most people probably don't even know its an airlines (hence why they're investing in it).

Also, slightly non-coincedental that the stadiums that don't have naming rights deals also happen to have a 0% chance of ever hosting a Super Bowl.

There are going to be Super Bowls every 4-5 years in Vegas.

This logo lasted about 3 days before Jaguar/Ford took them Jacksonville Jagoffs to court. It looked pretty good on the black helmet too. They did not want to work together in any way shape or form.

Has that feel when there was talk about the Texans going after Manning when Schaub was still the starting QB.

I've actually left out of Vegas before on Allegiant since it was the only airline that seemed to go to the small airport I had to go to for a funeral. Worked out since Vegas is only like an hour to hour half away. It wasnt the best airline for sure. Hopefully their name on the stadium will help get more money into the company to invest into their airline.

When I was in Vegas last the stadium looked nice but the black seems like it going be hot in vegas unless it's all dark limo tint?

I'm wanting to go to the draft this year. It's going be warm but not to hot hopefully.

Not a direct analogy but It feels like that god awful run in the '90s when Davis would just try to sign the MVP of the last Super Bowl, regardless of position, team needs or player compatibility.

Mariota is a decent pickup, who has to learn how not to play scared to throw an INT, but he's shown he can win games. Gruden has always liked him. Good weather. Possible rejuvenation, but he is so not Las Vegas. It's like taking an Angel and trying to put him in the Devil's den.

Well, maybe, maybe not. Mariota is from Hawaii, and Las Vegas is known as the 9th island of Hawaii for a reason. Honolulu and Las Vegas are basically best friends. You can’t begin to imagine how many Hawaiians consider Vegas their second home, so culturally he should be able to blend in and adapt pretty easily.
